    Bolt Block

With temps. -20, I took on the indoor job of adding bolt blocks (bolt guide) to the Uberti single actions I use for SASS shooting. I had made them for my open top cap and ball revolvers, which I shoot more often, but had put off this on the '73. I just recently got a match for my .44-40 so I did...

    loose arbor

Here are pictures of an arbor separated from a frame, for those who wondered how things were together. My Pietta Open Top had a slight wiggle in the arbor. After experimenting with CA glue, which I am sure never had a chance to get in to where it needed to be. I decided to remove the arbor. This...

    Second one

Two weeks ago today my new '51 London Navy arrived it took until mid last week to get enough time to finish its "45dragoon" style tune ups. Paired with my old Pietta I can play Wild Bill. There is a world of difference between a 20+ year old Pietta and a 2014 Uberti, but both benefit from being...

Two '51s, not quite Wild Bill Hickok

Not quite a pair but close, my brand new London Navy and my constant companion old Pietta Navy The Uberti London has fit and finish to brag about, but I conceal carry my old Pietta most all Winter under a coat.

    Mule ears

This might be a gunsmith question, but though cowboys might have a better answer. I want extended ears on my Chinese made coach gun, like Pedersoli's Wyatt Earp. Would buy Dixie's wax cast blanks if I could weld extensions on them. I don't want to mess with the original ones, case I screw up. I...

Close, for horse shoes and hand granades!

I tried something different today. Thought of using fine shot in stead of breakfast food for filler in the 1860, loaded 20 gr. powder, wad and fine shot to bring the ball to the mouth of the cylinder. We set some Pepsi and Coke cans out about 20 ft. Well, You don't need the big hole in the can...

    CASS gun caddy

Finished my gun this winter, used it last summer unpainted and needing a few small changes. It dissembles without tools and could fit in a car trunk, the Rich Maroon paint is old new stock lead base paint. If you ever used stuff like it you would love the way it brushes out and covers!

    Hard to draw!

I have been carrying a 7 1/2" barreled Navy for the last few weeks in a shoulder holster under my winter coat, don't think a fast draw is going to happen ,gloves and all, but it is nice to have that big iron under my arm.

    Entering into the BP world

load from flask? What about Colt's Paterson flask, by the time you pull the cylinder there could not be a spark any where! And it charged all cylinders at once!

    Should I return my 1858?

I have my 1860s so I can push the wedge out with out a hammer. If you are one of those who needs to submerge your gun to clean it, sure is easier to dunk the barrel and cylinder while keeping spring a and small parts dry.

    saved by cap & ball

I shoot smokeless for cowboy action, but today a broken cylinder stop spring put my Colt out of action. For the first time I had my 1860 and 1858 with me, so I finished the last 2 stages with my cap and ball pistols. That winter practice with them helped me not miss! I have loaded bp for...

Can't set my .38 Derringer down!

Yes love my derringers, four right now. Have also had .22 and 38s and a muzzle loader in the past. I have tuned up the trigger pull on the American Derringer .45 and .44-40 to about 3#. Only have a limited number of the .41 rounds but shoot bp in the .44 some times. The hands don't sting with...
