Uberti and Pietta 1873 .45 Colt Revolvers

I understand these are not Rugers, Freedom Arms, etc. But, I am just wondering: Shooting 270 grain cast bullets at 14,000 PSI, what might be the life expectancy of Uberti and Pietta .45 Colt revolvers? Thanks

    Green Dot Pressures

Can anyone give an estimation of what pressure is being generated with 7.5 grains of Green Dot behind a .45 caliber 255 grain cast bullet? This would be in a .45 Colt with a Lee 452-255-RF. My main interest is if this charge would be at or below 14,000 psi. Thanks

    Cast Lee .452-255-RF @ 800 fps...just for paper?

A buddy of mine borrowed my Lee .452-255-RF mold to cast boolits for his .45 ACP. He is wanting to experiment with this heavy for gun boolit as a woods/defense load to be used in east Texas and Louisiana. He is not pushing it hard...keeping his loads around 800 fps. My thought is to push it more...

Green Dot in .45 Colt effected by level of crimp?

I am just starting to explore using Green Dot in .45 Colt. Today, I loaded 7 grains under a 255 grain boolit. Out of my 5 1/2" Uberti velocities were in the very low 800's FPS. From reading of other's experiences with Green Dot and .45 caliber boolits of this weight I predicted hitting around...

Black Powder In Unfired Brass Cartridge...does it cause corrosion?

I understand that firing black powder can eventually cause corrosion if the firearm is not cleaned. When brass cases are loaded with black powder does any corrosion occur to unfired brass over time? Say, I load up a box of cartridges with black powder, is there any concern with sitting them on...

Barrel Length Needed to Burn Up Powder?

Does anyone know what are the pressure differences are between Hodgdon Triple Seven's ffg and fffg?? Does anyone know what pressures these two generate, at all?? This would be from a .45 Colt with a 265 grain bullet. I am just trying to understand why the fffg version is not supposed to be...

    Triple Seven fffg Catridge Catastrophe???

There have been a number threads about whether to use Hodgdon's Triple Seven in catridge ammunition. I also understand that there is a factory warning about how this powder is used or not used. In my case, I am using the fffg version of Triple Seven in my .45 Colt handloads pushing a 265 grain...

Triple 7 fffg and .45 Colt Ammunition

Yes, I did a literature search on-line about using Triple 7 in a .45 Colt cartridge. And, although there is some information out there, none of it seems conclusive. So, I want to present the question straight forward. Please, limit comments to the specific concern presented. **Can Triple 7...

Navy Arms Company imported Uberti Revolvers

I have found a 5 1/2" barreled revolver that is in about 95% condition. Fired very little...maybe a dozen times. It is stamped, "Navy Arms Co. Ridgefield, NJ Made in Italy" on top of the barrel with "S.A. Cal. 45 LC" on the side, and "A. Uberti--Italy" on the bottom of the barrel. On the frame...

    Bug-out bag gun

Rossi M88 .38 Special I keep an older 5-shot stainless Rossi model 88 .38 Special with a 3" barrel in my bug-out-bag. I found it in a pawn shop and bought it specifically for the purpose of being permanantly stored in my bug-out-bag. I shoot it a couple times a year, clean it, then stash it...

    Winchester 94 30-30 AND Marlin 336 30-30

I have a couple late 1970's Marlin 30-30 rifles and a 1986 Winchester 94 30-30. The Marlins seem tighter and more smooth than my Winchester. What is ya'll's opinions of these two brands of 30-30 rifles? Compared to each other? Pros and Cons? Thanks

    .44 Magnum and .454 Casull

If you have a .44 Magnum and a .454 Casull, both with 4" barrels, both weighing about the same...ballpark 43 ounces, both shooting the same weight cast lead bullet of 240 grains, and both shooting these 240 grain bullets at 1,200 FPS: Which revolver would kick the hardest? How would the...

    Big Bore snubbies

My .454 Casull Here is my Ruger Alaskan .454 Casull with my not-a-snubby S&W 625 .45 Colt. The Alaskan is a fascinating and fun gun. It handles much better than one would think at first looking upon it. It appears bulky and awkward...it is NOT. I would not trade it for the world. The...

    Ruger Alaskan .454/.45lc

Love my Alaskan I love my Alaskan. Even the heavy loads are not as bad to shoot as some folks make them out to be. And, in the right holster the Alaskan is down right pleasant to carry and easily accessible.

    .45 Colt most accurate powders/bullets?

Lee 452-255-RF @ 265 gr with Unique and HS-6 I find these powders and bullet work well with my S&W 625-3 which has a 4" barrel. The Lee 452-255-RF dropping at 265 grains plus 9 grains of Unique or 12.5 grains of HS-6 get in the 920-930 FPS area. The point of impact and consistency of pattern...
