Might as well go ahead and start...

I began work on the trapdoor that I purchased at the GS . In the way of background this thing (loving reference) started life as a rifle in 1882. SN is 18 then two unreadable digits but I think they are 55 and then 21. Keith at Trapdoors Galore does not have a listing for the rifle. The last...

Gun Show at the Hampton Coliseum

Two day event. I got there at about 11:00 am today, the first day. Line for tickets was not long at all. Event hall was packed. The local guy who generally does the shows with ammunition and supplies was not there. He may be doing well enough out of his house that he does not have the stock for...

Finished cutting and crowning my other Trapdoor.

No photos this time since it went precisely like the first one. Those photos are under a different thread. (I love my trapdoor so much I am ......) Cut it with a hack saw, crowned it in the lathe, dovetailed the sight on the milling machine (and with a file). I learned that the barrel and...

    Iver Johnson Uberti .44 Magnum

It arrived today. Here are initial photos and description. Revolver is exactly as described in the Gunbroker listing. Pistol has been fired but is well cared for. Bore is like a mirror. Screw heads indicate it has been disassembled at least once. The owner tried to dress up the trigger...

    Went to Maine

Took a short vacation to the coast of Maine. Landed in Portland and then drove out to Pemaquid, Bar Harbor, and Eastport. Then back to Kittery and most importantly, Kittery trading Post. Very impressive place. Like Cabela's or Bass Proshop only better. It seems as though they have more used...

    Won on the gunbroker

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=352045325 So now I need some pointers on a good black powder load for the revolver.

    I guess I am bored

It has been raining for the last three days straight and doesn't show any signs of letting up. I wanted to do something with my shooting irons but I am too lazy to get started on the refinishing of the Geroco Texas Scout or cutting down the trapdoor barrel. So I made a coupla cleaning jags...

    Geroco Revolver

I came up with this revolver in a Florida gun shop a while back and the revolver has been a little problematic from the start. The history is that I gave 250.00 for it used. Geroco Texas Scout imported by George Rose and manufactured by Herbert Schmidt in (you guessed it) Germany. Revolver is...

Just finished my fifth revolver case

Here it is. Here is the office wall This new case is for cartridge revolvers. But I would hasten to mention that if you look closely you will see three revolvers which are not cartridge revolvers. I think this is a perfectly good reason to go out and look for an 1875 Remington, and a...

    Back to the range today....

Took the Trapdoor with the corrected front sight. POI is much closer now. The rifle shot real well. Almost all inside two inches at forty yards. I am still getting used to it. I am also very happy with my loads for the rifle. Very consistent. More than I can say for the .357s I loaded. These...

Just got back from the range

Took along five tools. New Henry in .357 and a Cattleman also in .357. Unfortunately I neglected to take along any .357 ammunition so it was a little embarrassing. I had loaded some .45LC for a comparison of 777 and Pyrodex. The platform was the Rossi M92 Carbine. Fun to shoot. I noted about...

    Sharps carbine

It arrived I think this rifle was never fired. The condition of the metal surfaces is perfect. Bore like a mirror. Bluing is still present on the muzzle which by the way has a flat crown. The wood is as near perfect as a used firearm can get.

    Need an opinion...Sharps Clones

I think TomADC might be the authority here. Maybe Hawg. Maybe Bed Bug has a thought. As regards the 1874 Sharps clones, of the various issues out there may I assume that Pedersoli is at or near the top of the heap? I have a line on a used one, a round barrel saddle ring carbine in .45-70 for...

I am not dumb about tools or processes but...

...I am going to need some advice. You all saw the photo of the 63 Sharps rifle I came up with. I have had it on the GB and it did not sell the first time and only has three folks watching it the second time through. I am going to let it run two more times and if it does not sell, I'll keep it...

Came home with a new toy...

The LGS had a 63 Sharps Saddle Ring Carbine. They didn't know what they wanted for it. I gave them 200.00.

    ATF and Acetone

Just tried it on some rusted bolts on a wheel barrow and all of them turned loose immediately. I should have compared it to liquid wrench but I didn't think quick enough. I do have to shake it up every time I use it. For the guys with the boogered up screws. .50-70 Trapdoor and the 1860 Colt...

Some good news at the Gun Show

I saw a WHOLE LOT more ammunition at the Gun Show in Virginia Beach. Almost any caliber and in most cases as much as one wanted. 9mm was limited at one vendor's stand to 200 rounds. Brass was abundant. Two vendors had returned who had been missing in recent shows. Saw four different rifles...

    Lyman 450

I think I just solved my Lubricator/Sizer problems at least partially. I bought a Lyman 450 from eBay for 67.00 delivered. The listing says the press is complete and fully functional. But the photos show some parts that are missing. The reservior cover, the piston, and two o rings appear to be...

    Need some BP Cartridge advice

I am going to get a lube sizer and the dies for the calibers I load. I'll prolly wind up with a Lyman/Ideal 45, 450 or 4500. (I m lurking around eBay so I have to take what is available) Question is: Do RCBS dies work in a Lyman Lube Sizer press? Also Do I need a specific die for a specific...

    RemOil and BP

Gentleman asked me the question does RemOil react w/ BP and cause a tar like residue that is difficult to remove. My response was that I have not experienced that but my shooting style may be permitting me to commit some sins which under other circumstances don't work out. I don't shoot a lot...
