    What are your reactions to....

....The European American Armory (EAA) German imports? I examined a .45LC Bounty Hunter at the gun show last week. It was used and the guy was not budging off of 400.00. You can buy these things new on GB for well under 400.00. They look much nicer than the Heritage Arms equivalent. All the...

BP cartridge reloading and powder cards

Guys, As you may recall, I openned the BP cartridge reloading door some time ago. I initially loaded 35 grains of 777 into the .45 LC rounds I was reloading, only to find that the round made the shooting experience a little too emotional. So I backed off to 28 meaning that I needed filler and...

Very good day at the range.

Took along the Vaquero and the Cattleman. These revolvers shoot essentially the same. I found this out last time I went shooting. It is verified now. More importantly I took along a good comparison of 100 rounds using Federal primers and 100 using the Winchester primers which I thought were...

    Can anyone tell me....

....the headspace specs on a .45 Colt? I checked headspace using a case with a rim thickness of .056. I came up with .063 to .064 on an Uberti Cattleman and a Ruger Vaquero respectively. I think this is within the specs, but I would like to be certain.

    Lyman Tru-line Junior

Someone asked me for a recommendation on a loading press. Since I only ever owned the Lee Classic (which I like a lot) I could not make an educated guess. So I decided to go buy a different press so that at least I had something to compare the Lee press to. I got a deal on a Lyman True-line...

    Straight skinny

I see some fairly good prices for Rossi 1892 Winchester clones on GB. I understand that one gets what one pays for. But are these rifles worth the money (Right around 400.00 plus shipping anfd ffl)? There is an EAA revolver on GB for a fairly reasonable price. Again...What is the reputation of...

    Use of a drop tube

What do I lose if I don't use one? Remember; .45 Long Colt. Black powder.

.38, .38 special, .357 what is your load like?

I am trying to zero in on my decision about an alternate caliber (alternate to .45 LC) to reload for my shooting. I understand quite well that the designations in the title refer to smokeless loads and projectiles designed for smokeless powder. Starting with case length it appears that there...

    Sorry guys.....

....I asked a dumb question about .38-40 and .38 cartridges in a previous post which I can't find now. (I wanted to acknowledge the mistake right on the post.) With one Google search the first thing that came up answered my question. Should have done that before posting the question. Anyway...

    Long overdue range report...Vaquero

I am not smart enough about cartridge revolvers to tell you anything you don't already know but here goes. I was shooting BPCR loads of 200 grain RNFP bullets and 28 and 35 gains of 777. I also shot a hundred rounds of bought cowboy loads (smokeless powder 200 gr. RNFP.) I did not chrony the...

    Gun show in Virginia Beach

Went to the GS yesterday. Good selection of cap and ball revolvers. Best price was an 1860 Colt from Pietta with box and papers for 150.00. Almost sprung for it but I am trying to add to the cartridge herd. Very little in the way of .45 Long Colt. Ruger Vaquero just like the one I bought a...

Need a little more advice on cartridge reloading

As you may recall I have moved into black powder cartridge reloading with the .45 Long Colt and have the pistol to shoot. Pretty soon it is going to be time for a rifle. I suppose there is real reason to stick with the same round for the rifle as I am using in the pistol. (Keep in mind I don't...

    Titan Reloading

Guys, I just wanted to give a "shout out" to Titan Reloading. This is a small but growing operation. Their prices are very competitive even with the big guys. Their shipping is reasonable. Priority shipping actual costs and no handling tacked on. They always answer the phone. They have a...

.45 LC...Starting the bullet into the case.

Guys, The way my bullets cast I get an O.D. of right around .454. with the lead I am using. It is a Lee 90234 mold. My lead is measuring right around BHN 8 to BHN 16 The case expanding die (also from Lee) opens the cases up such that the bullet requires a bit of yutzing to get it to start...

    Pinnacle

Came up with some GOEX Pinnacle in 50 grain equivalent plugs. Coupla questions from a guy who does not ever shoot long arms: 1. Can I cut the plugs in half with a sharp knife and get 25 grain equivalent or is this too dangerous? 2. Can I crush the plugs and get powder (I can figure out the...

    Cleaning Brass ... New guy

Fellas, I got hold of a rock tumbler from Horrible Freight (Vibrator/Tumbler 67617 - 54.99 minus 20% coupon) and some Lizard Litter (walnut shell fine grind - grains about twice the size of salt - 12.99 for a pickup load) from Petsmart. I tumbled the cases for about an hour and a half. I did...

Range report...or...beginning of a learning curve.

Uberti Cattleman 5.5 inch barrel in .45 LC I am not used to this pistol so I can't speak for accuracy accept to say that it points pretty good and hits (with my old eye) pretty much what I aimed it at. I had three rounds with me. Winchester Cowboy Rounds using an RNFP 250 grain slug, Some...

    Calling all Experts

I am ready to make a move on black powder cartridge reloading. So I need some advice and I need some stuff. I have decided on .45 long colt. And want to start with an 1873 blued with at least a 6 inch barrel. As always, my tight streak compels me to look for the deal of the century. There...
