I just saw in the little newsletter for the canyon (canyon is about 7 miles long, but I live at the top of the canyon right on the ridge of the mountain) that so far this year there have been 52 reported bear sightings, 6 mountain lion and a few moose. I have never reported any of my bear sightings except for the police report when the bear busted the window in a few years ago. Fall is usually much worse than any other time of year.

Perhaps I should quit slicking my hair back with bacon grease! :)

Here is what it looks like looking to the west from the deck at my house:

In this photo, left is south and right is north. In the center of the photo are South and North Arapahoe peaks. I have climbed these and most other peaks in this photo

I spend too much time working in New York, Washington DC area, LA and other socialist crimminal protection zones. I worry when I must be disarmed in the presence of the most dangerous predator (human crimminals) than here with bears and mountain lions. But, People feeding bears are causing big problems. They usually vacation here and leave the rest of us to deal with the bears they were feeding after they go back home.

Had the same problem with gators, when I lived in South Florida, only you better have a missing limb if you shoot a large gator without proper documents. I still carried a 357 when hunting or fishing and saw large gators, but none that wanted to get too friendly.

I am originally from Florida, near Winter Haven in my youth. My family lived on a lake and we had many incidents with alligators. They don't have strong muscles to open their mouth so ...if you can grab their mouth and avoid their tail you can control them. I never had to kill one, but relocated plenty. In drought periods even the largest dogs would dissappear.
