suppose you could live in a remote part of alaska for 1 year, what guns would you like to have with you? limit yourself to 5 firearms, they could be handguns, rifles, shotguns, but they would have to cover all bases. try to choose from guns you already own if you can.

.22 marlin mod 25 bolt rifle with scope
7mm mag weatherby vanguard rifle with scope
45/70 marlin lever action
12 ga mossburg 500 pump with 2 barrels
44 mag ruger redhawk revolver

rj--seems ua got it well figured-- and your choices, while personal , are fine.
me personals are not much different:

22LR for some meat in the soup--CZ-452 w/ Nikon 3x9x32
300 Win Mag w/ a 8x32x50--for some long range moose
ditto on the 45-70--against thems 4 legged that hunt us
ditto on the scatter gun--for them 2 legged that hunt us
blackhawk 44 mag--for anything that hunts me up close!!

Ruger MkII 204ruger
Glock 33 357sig
Remington 1187 12ga
T/C Encore 7mm-08 handgun

"T/C Encore 7mm-08 handgun"
i have a 7mm-08 in a rifle format, great cartridge and great gun. i didn't include it for myself because i thought the 7mm mag was a better choice for me but if it was all i had i would feel pretty good about it.

Whole year in the wilderness with no access to toy store for repair parts and maintenance I would go for simple. Out of guns available it would be:
1. Savage single shot bolt action 22 LR
2. Ruger single six 22 LR
3. H&R single shot break action .308
4. Bolt action 300 Weatherby Magnum MkV
5. H&R single shot break action 10 gauge with full choke

Covered from squirrel to polar bear and close up to 600 yards plus and all minimal care rugged guns. I'd have to stock up on 10 gauge ammunition.

I only have 4 guns so it would have to be:

Mossberg 100 ATR .270 win
Ithaca single shot 20 gauge
XDM 9mm
Taurus TCP

think I need to go on a spending spree.

I'd have to choose:
Benelli Nova 12 Gauge with patternmaster extended range choke
Savage 111F 30-06 with harris bipod and a bsa 3-12x44 scope
savage Mark II 22LR open sight
Ruger GP100 in .357 Magnum
DPMS AP4 in .223
And of course a recurve bow with a 60 pound draw

Browning SA-22lr
Remington 870 12G Wingmaster

SigArms Swiss Hunting Rifle .270 w/Nikon Monarch 3x9x40
Ruger Blackhawk 4 5/8" .41Mag

Henry lever action .22

springfield 30-06 with burris scope

mosin nagant 91/59

ruger ranch .223 w/ modifications

remington 870 w/ 3.5'' capability

i would have thrown in a .45acp, but with that lineup i dont really see a ne
ed. That particular mosin is very light compared to the others.

i dont feel right not having my .45. if all i could have was 5, maybe i would try to sneak it in with all the ammo im gonna be bringing with me :D

That is a very smart comment. I would definitely add a bow as number six. If all else fails you will still have a way of getting your dinner.

1. Ruger GP-100
2. 7mm mag. of your preference
3. O/U .22/.410
4. Marlin 45/70
5. Remington 870

PLUS a bow with lots of arrows as said by nathaniel

From what I already own?,,,

Lemme see here,,,
I'm sorta rifle deficient.

Only have 5 and 3 of them are .22's.

Okay here goes:

8mm German Mauser - Because ya hafta have a big old dependable rifle,,,
Before he gave it to me, my grandfather used this rifle on a hog,,,
That I remember being as big as a station wagon,,,
Okay, I was just a little kid when I saw it,,,
I trust it to kill anything if I hit it right.

S&W 629 w/6" barrel - Because ya hafta have a big dependable handgun,,,
I would probably wear this in a shoulder holster to the out-house,,,
Don't wanna get caught unarmed when you're most vulnerable.

H&R Sportster .22 single shot w/3x9 Scope - Because it's my most accurate .22 long gun,,,
If anything is gonna put small game in the pot,,,
It will be this one-shot wonder.

Taurus 970 .22 w/6" bbl - Because it's been my most accurate .22 revolver,,,
I do feel that a good .22 revolver would always be handy on the hip,,,
For when you get in the way of a stampede of jack rabbits.

Colt Trooper Mk III in .357 Mag w/4" barrel - Because ya need something comforting to sleep with,,,
Raquel (That's her name) lives in a holster screwed to my bed frame,,,
I'm not sure I could get to sleep anymore without her presence.

That's my picks from what I own,,,
I would leave the semi-auto's at home that winter,,,
Gimme a good old revolver, bolt, or break open action any day.

I don't own a shotgun.

I lived in Alaska in such a sitation for two years before I went to work for the Anchorage Police Dept.

I lived in a little one room cabin in Lignite (just north of Healy on the railroad tracks). No electricty, no running water. Lots of things I'd change if I had to do it again.

I ended up being laid off during the winter. Yeah I had other guns to play with but the two I used to feed my family was a Savage 24 22/410 and a Ruger 77 in 7 Rem Mag. I dont think there is anything up there that I couldnt of handled with those two guns.

I was younger then. Lots of things I'd change if I had to do it again. I think a '06 would have worked just as well. One thing I wouldnt change is the Savage 22/410. That little sucker is a meat getter. Maybe a 22/20 gage would have been better.

While I was building the cabin I lived in a tent. I remember modifying a stump to set up my RCBS single state press on it. Cranked out a lot of rounds with my loader mounted on a stump.

A little hint if you are contiplating living in such a cabin, Dont shoot mice with a 22 in the cabin, it tends to pi$$ off the wife. If you have to live like that, put your money into a chain saw, you're gonna spend more time cutting wood then shooting.

Dont forget 22 shorts, there is money in muskrats, or there was back then. (1972-74)

Well,

Of the five I own

Savage Mk1 FVT .22
Remington Model 5 .22
Husqvarna 30-06 (FN m98 action)
Custom 9.3x62 Mauser
Norinco m37 clone (12 guage)

Two 22's, two big game rifles, and one shotgun. I don't own a pistol big enough to count as enoug medicine for wild animals in AK, so a backup 22 and a backup big game rifle. For simplicity I could take two 8x57's instead of the 30-06 and 9.3x62, but I think it would be easiest to feed a 30-06 and use the 9.3 solely as a backup or for hunting bear.

I would take most of what I own now.
My AR cause I like it and it can take down a deer at up to 100 yds.
Probably look into more of a hunting rifle for most hunting though.
My .22 Bolt action for small game.
My P22 for plinking and funnin' around.
My Series 80 1911 .45 for defence up close.
May change that last one to the Ruger .454 Iam supposed to pick up this weekend.
