Reloading spec is .020" over maximum OAL ???

I was given some Nosler 40gr Varmint tips to load up for my Colt AR but the Hodgden website specifies an OAL of 2.280" - the maximum is supposedly 2.260". If I was loading one at a time in a bolt rifle it would be fine but I'll be feeding these thru a magazine. What are the issues? If it feeds...

    Which shoulder recoil pad?

I was looking at shoulder recoil pads yesterday and the only one I could find was a no-name brand for $30 that had a pad the thickness of a communion wafer - and the cheap cloth it was made of was very thin. I asume there are some recoil pads better than this one? Thanks.

Any difference in Remington 6 1/2 SR vs 7 1/2 BR primers?

I've only used the Remington 7 1/2 BR small rifle primers for reloading .204 and .223. My Cabelas store has had the Remington 6 1/2 small rifle primers in stock off and on but no 7 1/2 primers. Is there any real difference between the two? I might try shooting the .204 out to 300 yards some...

Question about using my Redding Model 3 powder measure

I bought a used Redding Model 3 powder measure awhile back and it works really well reloading .204, .223, and .243. I've only reloaded a small amount of .380 Auto and .40 S&W but I want to reload a couple hundred rounds of each pretty soon. Is the powder gauge accurate and enough to throw 3.4...

Which reloads feed the best in semi-auto pistols?

I reload for both .380 Auto and .40 S&W for my Ruger LCP and Springfield XD. Would the maximum OAL for each firearm feed the best or would maybe something around -.010" be better? And does a particular bullet type feed better than others - round nose versus a sharper angled Hornday XTP bullet...

    Question about nickel-plated brass

I just bought some .40 S&W and .380 Auto nickel-plated brass "just because". Then I got to thinking, if this is "plated" brass, I assume this is standard brass that is then plated so is the overall diameter of the case technically larger? If it's still going to chamber then the plating has to...

    Reloading .223 with BL-C(2)

I thought I read somewhere that BL-C(2) powder was well suited for heavier .223 bullets in the 70 grain range - yeah or nay? Thanks.

Fast twist and lower velocity question

Fast twist and lower velocity question NOT WORKING !! My Colt AR has a 1:7" twist and it shoots 55gr factory ammo fairly well. I've only reloaded 60gr bullets using IMR-8208-XBR. Although my powder range is 21.5 - 23.6 grains, my most accurate loads for (3) different brands of 60gr bullets was...

Which FAT Wrench bit should I get?

I have the FAT Wrench kit that contains a #10 and #11 bit which is basically the same size other than .005" difference in width and .002" tip thickness. Neither tip fits the small 6-48 plug screws. What number bit do you use for these smaller screws? Thanks.

    Ballistically speaking . . . what's more accurate?

If we take for instance .45 caliber 200 grain bullets, with jacketed lead being the shortest due to density, versus an all copper bullet being a bit longer, and an all brass bullet being the longest - which of the 3 would shoot the best 100 yard accuracy? Thanks.

    Lead versus all copper accuracy

Probably posting in the wrong sub-forum but I'm looking for some technical knowledge. I want to come up with a light recoil bullet/sabot load for my grandson in the muzzleloader I just bought him. The Hornady 10mm XTP in 155 grains is .555" long. The same 155 grain Barnes all copper TAC-XP is...

Anyone identify this peep and what's missing?

I have my dad's old .22 rifle that my mother supposedly shot a pheasant with when I was 1 year old. So this rifle is at least 65 years old. On the barrel it says: Wards Western Field 14M 491A 22 S-L-LR Here are some pics where the peep mounts on the left rear side of the bolt area. The peep...

Who reloads with Hornady 10mm XTP?

I reload the Hornady 10mm 155 grain XTP but can anyone tell me the length of their 180 and 200 grain XTP bullets? Thanks.

Anyone have a Knight 900703 base I can buy?

I'm looking of a Knight one piece 900703 base - thanks.

How would I shorten a composite stock?

I'm looking to buy a Knight LK-II muzzleloader for my 6 year old grandson. This model has a short 22" barrel but the traditional 14 1/2" length of pull. I'd like to trim the butt end down 2" - 2 1/2" or so and then be able to add a rubber butt plate. But I'm sure the butt end of the composite...

Caldwell Deluxe versus BR Competition front rest

I thinking on getting the Caldwell Deluxe front rest in the $80+ area. Is the BR Competition front rest that much better at almost twice the money? Thanks.

What's better - BR bipod or adjustable front rest?

I switched over to a Harris Bench Rest bipod to use with my Protector rear bunny bag. On my smaller caliber rifles, it works just fine. But when I get into my larger calibers - even with my TC muzzleloader - the rifles jump enough that that I have to realign the horizontal with the S Lever. I...

Calculating scope subtentions at different powers

Simple question - I have a Swarovski 3-9x36m scope with the 4A reticle. Per their specs, the subtention from the crosshair down to the edge of the vertical post at 100 yards is 25.2" at 3x and 8.3" at 9x. Is there a special formula to calculate these distances for 4x thru 8x as well? I would...

How do I calculate the correct MOA drop?

I have a firearm with a Swarovski 3-9x36mm with the 4A reticle. The subtension at 9 power from the crosshair center down to the edge of the heavy line on the vertical is listed at 8.3 MOA. My POI at 100 yards is 1.5 MOA high. If I want to use the edge of the heavy vertical (8.3 MOA) as a "BDC"...

How much cool down time between shots?

If you're shooting different load amounts to determine which shoots best in your ML, how much time do you let pass between shots to allow the barrel to cool back down? Thanks.
