Question about the JBM Ballistics trajectory program

I use this ballistics chart a lot but I'm confused about the designation for the first bullet drop column. Among various option settings is MOA, Mils, inches, and inches @ 100 yards. If I set the 1st column to inches, it will indicate twice the amount compared to inches @ 100 yards. And if I set...

What's a decent portable shooting table?

I was at Cabelas today and I kinda like the Herters Shooting Bench for about $170 although the front yoke was a bit wobbly and would need some tune up work done on t. I didn't really care for the Caldwell as it seemed tippy as heck. Just wondering if there was a decent portable shooting table...

    Which scope level is best?

I've been looking at scope levels and I see two basic configurations. One has the level sitting right above the scope tube and you would lift your head slightly to view it and then go back to looking thru the scope. The other comes off to the side and I assume you could see it by opening your...

Ultradot 30mm versus 1" FOV difference

I have the 1" Ultradot mounted on my 10g a turkey gun. For whatever reason, H&R put the mounts halfway down the barrel so it sits about 18" from my eye. Just wondering if the FOV for the 30mm model would be minimal or significant? Thanks.

    Any alternative to Magic Dots?

I'm right handed and left eye dominant. I've seen the Magic Dots online but I'd rather not pay for the different colored dots that I'll never use as I would like them all in the gray or "clear" color. There has to be other choices but I can't find the correct verbiage for an online search. Any...

    Question about Zeiss 2-8x42 Duralyt

I'm looking to buy a used mint Duralyt with the illuminated 60 reticle. The specs for the turrets specify 1 cm per click at 100 meters. That equates to .3937" at 109.36 yards which is .36" at 100 yards. So basically the turrets are in Mrads with 3.6" for 10 clicks - correct? Thanks.

Adding target turret to a Swarovski

I have a Swarovski AV 3-9x36mm (prior model to the Z3) and was wondering if the elevation turret could be refitted with a target turret - for less than a zillion dollars? Thanks.

    Question for the experts

If a large caliber barrel, let's say .50 muzzleloader, went from room temperature to -20 below zero, what affects would there be to the OD and ID of the barrel, theoretically? Would the barrel OD get smaller and the bore get larger due to the molecules packing close together or what? Thanks.

    Scope damage from recoil

Whether it's a centerfire, magnum rifle, shotgun, or muzzleloader, I would think the most delicate part of the firearm would be the internals of the scope. If you were bench shooting with front and rear sand bags, the recoil would be absorbed into your shoulder. But if you shoot from something...

Barnes HP - fill, add tip, or leave alone?

I'm looking to use this Barnes 10mm 155gr bullet in a blue sabot for my young grandson to use in his muzzleloader. I want the lighter bullet for a reduced recoil until he gets bigger. With a reduced powder charge, it still should have a velocity of 1500-1600 fps. The hollow cavity is about...

Which side of the JBM Stability range is best?

The preface for the JB Stability program suggests a range of 1.3 to 2.0 for optimum stability. I have read elsewhere that a 1.4 stability was best. So is the lower end of this scale better than the higher end, or it doesn't matter as long as it falls somewhere in between? Thanks,

Question about the Twist Rate formula

I understand the Twist Rate formula of: TR = C x D squared / L but concerning bullet length, I have a bullet that's 1.102" including the polymer tip, .910" not including the polymer tip. Which measurement should I use? Thanks.

How do I repair scope gouge?

I have a Redfield 2-7 Illuminator that I sent in to Scope Service in Tulsa to be reconditioned. It already had a gouge and I'd like to repair it if I could. It's deep enough that regular scope touch up paint wouldn't fill it in. I was thinking of trying to squeegee a thin film of JB Weld into...

    How is SAKO pronounced?

I've heard SAKO pronounced with a long A like make and I've heard the A pronounced like socko . . . which is correct? Thanks.

    Simple bullet drop trajectory question

I'm trying to understand hold over and trajectory on my ballistic trajectory chart. At 100 yards my poi is 1.5" high with a 131 yard zero distance. And the bullet drop is -8.3" with a -3.9 MOA (-4.15") at 200 yards. I assume if I: - held 4.15" high at 100 yards, it would hit the bull at 200...

Found another use for stainless steel media

I have a Model 5 .22LR and the 5 shot mag has always been a bear to load plus I could only get 4 shells loaded - never 5. I took it apart and put the body and upper follower in my Thumler rock tumbler with about a pound of SS media for about an hour. It lightened it up some so I put a bit of...

What other stock is compatible with Remington Model 5 .22LR?

I have a Remington Model 5 .22LR and Id like to find a stock that would fit - or I could modify to fit - and then trim down for a shorter length of pull for my grandkids to shoot. I've already called Remington and they just pointed me to Boyds Gunstocks and they were of no help either. I'm...

How much to spend on a wind speed gauge?

I've seen some $15-$20 hand held digital wind gauges online - are these good enough or do I need to spend more? Thanks.

    Earmuffs versus ear plugs

When I'm bench shooting, my earmuffs get in the way of getting down close to the stock so I opt for wearing ear plugs instead. The other day I had my 6 year old grandson at the range and the youth Protector model ear muffs I had gotten him seemed to get in the way also so I switched him over to...

What do you use for a scope pouch/bag?

I have two scopes with their own Bobro mounts for my AR. I keeps the smaller scope on when in the house. My other one is a SS 3-15x42 which runs 14" with the kill flash screwed on. Larue has a padded scope bag that will run about $64 tmd, just wondering if there was a bit less expensive option...
