    Range etiquette: Was I out-of-line?

At a recent visit, I arrived at my private club range to see an older man firing a string from his 1911. He relaxed as the gun recoiled, and this allowed the muzzle to rise up and point at the tin roof of the line. The ejected brass kept deflecting off of it, and those that struck him caused him...

    Questions about endshake

I've searched the few threads here that mention it. I've always been aware of shimming as a corrective measure; but, I understand that the crane can also be stretched to an extent. A smith I spoke with said that he only believes in the latter method, as the shims themselves are not properly...

    Used Charter Arms Pathfinder .22?

It's a blued steel 6-shot, with a 3"(?) bbl., serrated trigger, and adj. sights. All chambers lock-up solidly, the action feels reasonably smooth and the finish is about 95%. I know nothing about these guns, except for their so-so reputation in .38/.357. The dealer is asking $189, which means I...

Your handgun caliber & load of choice for HD?

I know, many of us maintain a long arm for the purpose. But, what caliber HG is always avaiable to you, and ready-to-go? Is your load choice based somewhat on concern for the potential for overpenetration?

Boot Grips(or similar) for K/L/N frame?

I have a pair of Butler Creek's on my M12, and Uncle Mike's on my 442, so I am familiar with them. Do you favor them for CCW, or general shooting? Do any of you find that they provide better recoil control for follow-up shots? On the K-frame, I 'can' get my lower three fingers onto the front...

Used Perf. Center L-frame-How'd I do?

It's a 3" 686-4(7rd) with an unfluted cylinder, muzzle port(comp), front night sight and trigger stop. The hammer and trigger are of the older, chromed style, though the cylinder latch is the recent type. It appears to be 99+% for $375 OTD?

Ever had a roll pin just go 'flyin' off the gun'?

I took my CZ-85 in to have some Ashley's installed. Though it does basically drop in, the front blade is not pre-drilled to accept the retention roll pin. My smith(a 1911 and Glock guy) asks how I like the pistol, which I praised. His only comment was how I should be careful, as he's seen those...

SG for HD: One more reason?

I was at my outdoor range yesterday patterning some loads. I wanted to see what the S&B slugs did at 25yds, so I began to bench off a few groups. I returned from marking the target, and I touched off the next one w/o any hearing protection.:( The firing points are all covered with a sheet metal...

Have you seen The Duke's "Flying Leathernecks"?

In the early half of the film, no aviator seems to be without a Gov't. Model on their hip, even at base camp. In the latter half, they all are sporting M&P style wheelguns in shoulder rigs, but mostly just pre/post mission. What gives? Does this somehow mirror history? As an aside, they also...

Source for stainless 1911 parts kit?

Wilson's said they no longer stock such a kit, and most everything is individually priced. Sarco has kits in chrome-moly, but not stainless. Chip Mccormick doesnn't carry all of the needed parts. Brownell's? I already have a frame, slide and barrel. Now I just need the other sundry items. Thanks.

Bumping the safety on the Makarov?

Have any of you experienced this? The lower edge of the safety touches the knuckle of my thumb as the slide recoils. This bumps it off of the fire position slightly. Just a bit of upward rotation is enough to prevent a hammer blow to the firing pin, but not enough to de-cock it. This did not...

Pleased with Barnaul JHP in the Mak

It chrono'ed out VERY consistently, with several shots in each string reading the same speed. The spread in one string was only 13fps, with a 30fps spread in another(8rds). The average was over 1050fps, placing it right there with the Cor-Bon. The cavity is a lot larger than on the Cor-Bon, and...

Flashlight 'mount'. Will this even work?

I just added a two-round Choate extension to my 9200A1. Naturally, it comes with a barrel clamp with loop style sling mount. On a whim, I whipped out my Scorpion light and tried something. I mounted the clamp to the mag tube, and I suspended the light from underneath it clenched between the...

Suggestions: 870 won't feed dummy shells? Sugge

I'm sorry if I appear to be wearing out my welcome here lately.:) Tonight, I had the opportunity to really examine the used 870 I just bought. I removed the two-round plug from the mag, and I wanted to check the feeding and cycling. I have a set of orange plastic dummies from Dillon's that I...

Question on cutting down a choked barrel?

I have searched under both 'barrel' and 'bbl.', and I can't see that my question has yet been addressed. I have a chance to pick up a full-choked, plain bead 870 barrel of about 28" for $50. The vent-rib, modified, dual bead barrel that came with the gun should be really nice for trap, so I...

Are you more accurate with your revolver?

For instance, under a timed qualification course. Or, mowing down a row of soda cans in DA. Or, just plain target shooting at a bullseye. Do you feel that the longer, rolling DA pull allows you to have better 'timing' than the SA of most autos?

I checked out an "iai" 1911 today.

The level of fit and finsish was pretty nice, considering a sub-$400 price. Actually, it reminded me somewhat of a Gold Cup. There was a large, flat, ungrooved rib up top, with dovetailed front and blade rear sights. There is a relief cut at the top of the front strap, extended ambi-safeties...

OK, OK, Dave, I got an 870!

:) It is a matte finished Wingmaster with 2&3/4" chamber. It's in great shape finish-wise, and it has the black synthetic furniture I've seen pictured w/SG Tech's conversions. The full stock is cobblestone textured on the grip, with a wide, grooved, short forend that stops flush with the face of...

Anyone have the titanium L-frame .38?

This gun seems to fill the niche of the M12, and the price has come down substantially in my area. I believe that some of them may be pre-sellout, for $399. I've handled several, and one would not allow me to pull the trigger, as it was locked up somehow. I hope that is not reflective of their...

An employee here just UD'ed his Glock...

and sent a round through his hand! NO, this is not to flame the Tupper-gun. I just posted it as a word of caution for us all. The guy is a mechanic working in a large garage bay. The round continued through one interior wall, and lodged into a second w/o penetrating the stucco exterior of the...
