    Modifying Hogue grips?

I put the CZ75 Hogues on my 97b. Big improvement, but it still doesn't have the wonderful palm swell I'm used to. Any way to perhaps soften the inner plastic frame and push out a bit of contour without messing up the fit?

    Stainless 75b question

I've had my 75BD for about 9 years now, love the gun. Recently I spied a fellow shooter's 75b Stainless and asked to try it, and right away noticed the gun felt...lower, if that makes sense. The slide and sights just looked more squat for lack of a better word. Illusion? Are the sights...

    Did I make a 40?

On a whim I bought the Lee 160 grain 45acp mold. With 6.2gr of Universal, it seems to be hustling at over 1100fps according to my manual, well within 40S&W range. So my question, other than a bit more capacity, why would someone get a 40 gun when they can crank up a 45 to similar...

    Homebrew Critical Defense bullets

Many of us read the article about the CD development, where an engineer filled an XTP cavity with silicone caulk and was impressed with the results. Anyone tried this yet?

Tried the Lee 160gr 45acp bullet today

Talk about a weird bullet. It's wider than it is long. The Hodgdon site suggests a 6.5gr minimum charge of Universal for their 155gr SWC lead bullet, and in all honesty they felt similar to a 40S&W round. Kinda snappy, like a hefty 9mm. Not the 'big roll' of a 230gr. I also tried 5.5gr but...

    Dad wants a gun

He just turned 67. I've had him out where I live for some gun range time, and he took a shine to my CZ. He's not really looking to spend $500 right now though, and I suggested a Ruger for about $300. As I reload thousands of rounds a year, I suggested he get a 45acp as I can make some loads...

    K9 vs CW9 barrel?

I have a K9 with the polygonal barrel. Can someone tell me if the CW9's barrel will drop into the K9? My homebrew LRN lead up the poly barrel in a hurry and I understand the CW9 has standard rifling.

WTOP bit on college carry in VA

Anybody hear this nonsense? Ask the Governor program, comments made about his support for concealed carry on campus. Despite being a general advocate for gun rights, he felt it a bad idea for college kids to be carrying weapons, but suggested an armed teacher might make a difference in such a...

    Old 45acp case?

I found a case marked 'RA 42' at the range. Didn't know it was in my pickup collection until I reloaded it. Bottom line, the case is considerably on the small side, enough that it really just slipped through my resizing die without resistance. It's about .003 smaller in diameter. Were all...

Neighbor approached me about getting permit

I reside in KY and have a permit here. Our neighbor had an incident at work and wants to get her permit and training, but there's a catch. She's lived here over the 6 month residency requirement but technically still has everything for Indiana...DL, bills etc. Does she need to pursue an IN...

    Caldwell Platinum G3

I bought the Walkers Alpha muffs a while back and experienced the headband breakage and eventual squeal from one of the cups, as others reported. However, I did really enjoy the sound compression circuitry that doesn't shut off like other muffs in the price range. So to the point I discovered...

    45acp for my AR?

I have a S&W Sport. Not sure if it's considered 'commercial' or 'milspec', but at some point I'd like to get a 45 upper for it just for fun. Also, would this be a blowback or gas operated? I'd be using LRN through it for cost savings. Anybody have luck with these uppers?

    30-06 vs 308 question

Please excuse my ignorance. In brief, what advantages does the '06 have over a 308 round? I keep seeing the older cartridge come up in conversation but with modern powders and bullets available, not sure why the 308 doesn't just replace it.

    KY NICS check question

I saw this news article on my Insight front page today. http://insightbb.com/reuters/default.aspx?doc=2012-01-05T050728Z_2_TRE80407P_RTROPTT_0_USREPORT-US-USA-FIREARMS-BACKGROUNDCHECKS.XML Here's the quote that I'm puzzled about... Now that's news to me.

    M&P Sport mini report

I just have to chime in a little about my Sport. It now has 2300 rounds through it after today, all reloads using pulled surplus bullets. Our range has a 12" steel ram set up on a tree at 400 yards on the hill. Using a basic Millet dot and rested, I had no trouble hitting that sucker about...

    CZ carbine for hunting?

Caliber wars aside, would the x39 carbine be a viable hunting platform, and if so would a 3x9 scope or a 1x red dot be a better optic for the limited distances involved?

    Buying Dad a gun 'safe'

I promised to get him a small handgun safe so his wife feels better about having them in the house. After 25 years of marriage she finally relented and said she was neutral about getting one (other than his 22 revolver). Dad said he's the only guy in the family that doesn't have a 'real'...

    Knob Creek?

Anyone know when they'll be open again? Flooded out for over three months this spring, then the temporary gravel bridge got washed out a couple weeks ago, with more rain predicted. It didn't look like much progress was being made to the permanent bridge when I stopped by last week.

    Question about bullet lube physics.

I tumble lube exclusively and haven't used any with the wax in the band(s). Now, how does the first half of the bullet get lubed if the ring is in the last half of the bearing surface? Plus I've seen a lot of fired bullets with the wax still intact in the band.

    1911 sans safety?

Had a Glock for a while. I know the 1911 is a straight pull design, but wouldn't it be possible to design a trigger safety that could eliminate the thumb one? Maybe it's been done but not aware of it.
