    Removing Nickel plate

Came up with an old S&W DA Second Model at a gun show. Pistol is in great mechanical condition. Easily shootable. But the nickel plate finish is in very rough condition. At least fifty percent gone. I would like to remove he finish and then blue the pistol. (I can't do the nickel plating and...

Gun Show in Virginia Beach pretty good

Went to the show yesterday (Sunday) and found ammunition to be pretty plentiful. There were a lot of vendors there and they had a fairly good selection. Gentleman who is generally in attendance with a USMC red ball cap was present. He specializes in WW II and Cold War Semi Autos with some...

    Belgian Top Break

Bought this revolver at a gun show last week. It is in terrible shape. All of the screw heads were essentially destroyed. Nearly every spring in the revolver is either broken or missing. The case ejector operator disc needs to be replaced and probably the bolt as well. I know these parts are...

Gunshow in Hampton, VA much better than usual

Came home with a CZ52 which I traded two brass frame ASM Cap and Ball revolvers for. (Came with two magazines) Also brought home a Belgian Top Break in .44 Winchester. Think this is not a shooter but a very interesting piece. All of the springs are shot but I am going to try to bring it back to...

    I am a terrible tightwad....

This problem manifested itself a while back in a project in which I made my own inertial bullet removing mallet. Worked out okay. Looked kind of nice. Only took about twelve hours to make it. (That means my time is worth about $1.65 per hour which is about right.) But I still wound up with...

    Favorite Gunshop in Waldo, FL

Coupla years ago, I bought a Herman Schmidt Manufactured and G.E. Rose imported 1873 Clone in .357 at a little shop in Waldo, FL. Happened to be driving through and spotted the shop. Was quite happy with the deal. Still have it and like shooting it. Was in FL this last week and stopped at the...

Back to the shootin shack today

Took along an Uberti Iver Johnson Cattleman in .44 Magnum loaded with Goex. Also had two different rounds for the Uberti Smokewagon and the Uberti 73 Winchester in .45 LC. One round was a full load of Triple Seven FFg and the other was Pyrodex P. I took along the Tokarev too but reported on...

    Just have to tell ya.....

If I buy something online for reloading, it is generally purchased from Titan Reloading. Today, I needed a .44-40 FCD. It was listed on their website as out of stock. I called them to see when it might be replenished. The answer was "within five days". I needed some other stuff too, so he told...

    1873 Winchester with BP cartridges.

Took out my 1873 today to run some rounds through it. This rifle is .45 Long Colt and a thirty inch barrel. I was getting speeds consistently at 1500 FPS. Consistent groups BUT after about eighty or so rounds, I had a primer that failed to detonate the powder. The primer pushed the bullet...

    Tokarev fun

Took out a Tokarev with some surplus ammunition. That is a hot pistol. Consistently above 1400 FPS and very noisy. Pretty blinkin accurate though. Nice sight picture. This pistol would be easy to get used to. It sure isn't a handloader friendly pistol. Of fifty rounds I only found three spent...

    .44-40 black powder

Just got done reloading some .44-40 with a .429 200 grain lead bullet. Very light crimp was fine. Heavier crimp is hard on the thin wall of the case.

Had to make a top punch

I am reloading Tokarev with a .311 bullet downsized to .309. The bullet is a LRN from a Lee mold. Because I am a completely self absorbed tightwad, I made my own top punch for the bullet. To get the contours of the socket I reshaped a drill bit.

    Need advice on progressive press....

I have owned several single stage presses from different manufacturers. I have and like the Lee Turret press. I keep two presses bolted to the bench, and both are from Lee. But I think it is time to consider a progressive press. I don't think I want one from Lee, but rather a Dillon, RCBS or...

    Lee molds

I am an ardent adherent to Lee Molds. I know there are other molds out there and I know there are good reasons to choose those other molds. But for reasons of economy and ease of use, I have used Lee molds for about 35 years and even though I do own molds from other manufacturers, I...

Just came home with a bunch of wheel weights

Took my car over to my trusted mechanic and he had been saving some weights for me. Came home with about 40 pounds worth. Smelted down into prolly 25 pounds of ingots. The rest was either scrap or non-lead weights. I am getting pretty good at eyeballing the weights and telling which ones will...

    Takarev from .223

Not that there is not enough Tokarev brass around, but I guess just for the fun of it.... I have begun cutting down .223 brass and re forming for Tokarev. I have not shot any of it yet, but eh cases measure and look right. Question is...... Do I use small rifle primers (.223) or small pistol...

    Remington Rolling Block Sight

Bought this rifle a coupla weeks ago and it had been modified with a very recent and very inappropriate looking target sight. So I knocked it off and made a sight that is more fitting for the rifle. I started with round stock this time. I reasoned that I could machine the round stock in such a...

    MAB Model D

Bought this pistol at a Gunshow coupla weeks ago. Been trying to find original grips for it unsuccessfully. So I made some of my own. This pistol had some hideous after market target grips (Another member suggested they were install to permit importation to the US. His comment makes sense...

Cast lead bullets for .45 ACP

I tagged this onto a different post but I think that post had pretty much played itself out. Couldn't get answers> So here goes again. I am looking at casting bullets for .45ACP (two 1911s) and this will be my first smokeless reloading experience. I do a lot of BP cartridge reloading in...
