Be prepared.....Ron Paul was cheated in Iowa

Be prepared for the after caucus headlines...."Ron Paul's defeat was a result of voter fraud and cheating". His organization claimed that's what happened at the Iowa Straw Poll, I predict they will do the same after the Iowa Caucus. Any bets?

Different way to mount a press to bench...

Never been satisfied with drilling holes in a bench and bolting a press down. Once installed most presses never move again. Always intrigued with the possibility of a quick change system that gives more bench room if needed. Here's what I came up with, two rails of extruded aluminum recessed...

NRA & Iowa straw poll politics, photos....

There is nothing anywhere that compares to the Iowa Straw Poll. This is where political campaigns test the waters and their organizational skills. It's a carnival atmosphere where voters shop and give support to their favorite "horse". NRA and local members were on hand to sell memberships and...

Ground blinds now need orange in Iowa

New regulation for 2007-2008 in Iowa. Shotgun hunters are required to put a 12"X12" piece of hunter orange on their ground blind and visible from any direction. No distinction between between permanent or portable ground blinds. Maybe we should just run up a hunter orange flag on a pole. Can't...

Do you hunt with contact lenses or glasses?

For years I've fought the need to get glasses, but the old eye sight isn't what it use to be. Last year (at 56) I started wearing prescription glasses, trees limbs and outlines never looked crisper. I hate looking through binocs with glasses on. How do contact lenses work in cold weather and...

Got word today from family in the Centerville, Iowa area that Knight Rifles closed its doors today. Don't know if they have any other manufacturing sites, but Centerville was the original location. First Austin-Halleck, now Knight....market must have gotten saturated with in-lines.

    Pledge on polished finishes?.....

Dealer at a gun show, (who's guns look outstanding) told me he uses "Pledge" furniture spray on guns with highly polished finishes. Says it doesn't smear and show the finger prints like gun oil does......??? Any thoughts on this?

    Burma-signs...along Illinois highways

Champaign County Rifle Association (CCRA) in Illinois has placed "Burma" style signs throughout the state. It's a real pleasure driving through the state and seeing the pro-active actions these folks have done. Wish more gun clubs would do this...

Pictures of hard case for handguns...

Carrying guns to-and-from the range varies as much as a shooters choice of firearms. Over the years I have gone from soft side to hard cases. I selected the "Zero" Aluminum cases by Halliburton, has a rubber "O-ring" that seals the case from moisture and combination locks built in. Cases are...

    10/22 Volquartsen Sniper photos

Been playing around with a new camera, took a few pics of a 10/22 stock made from Pakkawood (laminated wood impregnated with resin then cured with heat). First attempt at stock making. It's the same material used in knife handles and cleaning rods. Much more dense and weighs nearly twice that of...

    Kansas City Cabela's....WOW!

Was in Kansas City this last weekend, had to go check out the new Cabela's. It would be well worth your time to stop if you're within 200 miles of this site. The parking lot was full, and I mean FULL!....the only way to get parked was wait for someone to leave. The place was wall-to-wall...
