    best all around levergun caliber

Of course, it all depends on one's particular definition of "all around" so please define that along with your choice. There are no wrong answers. In fact I will probably discover another costly right answer I never thought of before. What's your opinion?

    Why was 223/5.56 annointed?

as the military "chosen one" vs. 221, 222, 222 magnum, 22-250, others considered?

(modern made) low wall vs. high wall pressures

Just curious about what limitations there are for going with Buffalo Bore and other such hardcore loads. I don't necessarily have a specific caliber in mind, this may help select one.

I love lever rifles! Especially in 45 Colt!

I don't know why. They're not really as good as bolt actions really as far as being a rifle go. Maybe it's because I'm a lefty. I like ambidextrous guns even better than lefty guns. Maybe it's because they are so fun. My favorite is my Uberti Henry in 45 Colt. It's accurate and its so slow...

I know of a rifle I want but no rings. Where can I get them?

Why did the U.S. army turn their back on the lever gun after the Civil War?

The Henry and Spencer obviously proved their worth. We were lucky to have Mexico, Canada, and fish on our borders during that period of butt-headed thinking.

Why no modern rimfire > 22?

Once there were many, no longer. Did the old obsolete rimfire calibers survive life after smokeless powder?

    picked up a 1947 Marlin model 36 30-30

It's in very good condition for its age. I can't wait to shoot it. I saw it in the gun library at Cabela's in Thornton, had it shipped to the Buda location near me. I like that. You get the best of both worlds, online selection, brick-and-mortar ability to handle and view up close and...

    Winchester 1876 repro: .50-95 WCF

I see ammo exists, albeit limited and expensive. Anybody have experience? It's the biggest caliber available for this model. I have shot 50-110 in an 1886 and it was beyond a hoot; more fun than 45-70 for destroying scrap lumber. I'm thinking the .50-95 WCF might be likewise.

bone breaking bullets for .243 Winchester

For solid shoulder shots on deer or hog. Nosler partitions are good. What else? Looking for real world experience. Also good to know what didn't work.

    Galil Ace

I love my Galil and recently learned of the Galil Ace, an updated (read lighter) version that will soon be here. Any other known information such as what calibers, who will be the importer and when it will be available?

Pedersoli Model 86/71 45-70: good or problem child?

This thread has me concerned about this make/model/caliber. Either it is hit or miss, an early problem that got fixed (serial# cutoff?), or a faulty assumption that a design built around the .348 Winchester would work for 45-70 and does not. I already had an Italian problem child rifle...

    Marlin 45-70 1895 CB question

Did they ever make the long magazine version without the stupid crossbolt safety?

    targets (not paper)

Yeah cans are fun. And clay pigeons. I've heard used golf balls are fun. My favorite is a used wooden pallet and a nice lever 45-70. A rural trash dump that is periodically burned is a plinking goldmine. What do you like to shoot?

What can you do with a .17 rimfire rifle?

...that you can't with other 22 rimfires? Shoot it right? ammo is there, 22 mag not so much. Besides that.

    single shots: Browning? Ruger?

Winchester? Other? More concerned with accuracy, curious what your experience has been.

I have come to need a spotting scope. What's good? Are there any good Black Friday specials to consider? Thank you in advance!

357 vs 44 mag: rifle version

Many people seem to use them for the same reasons, plinking, target, hunting up to and including deer out to around 100 yards. Some even use them for wild hog and black bear. How about you? What do you use it for? What do you feed it and what's your rifle? I think of these as lever guns but...

    44-40 contradictions

One of the original attributes was to have ammo commonality between revolver and rifle. In Cartridges of the World they mention a factory peppier load "for rifles only". Today most ammo is cowgirl @ 725 fps. And then there is Winchester jsp at 1190 fps. Is it safe in revolvers? Also there...
