My favorite (and I've had a few) is the Smith & Wesson M&P9C. For such a small weapon, it has an impressive capacity (12+1) and absorbs recoil very well, making it pleasant to shoot. Very accurate, boringly reliable. Eats all kinds of ammo with no indigestion.

Ruger P95.

Rugged, dependable, accurite and American made. Ergos not the best, but I love it despite that. Save your money for ammo and practice.

With that said, the CZ line feels darn nice in my hand and I may consider one in the future.
