When I buy a .357 it's for full house 158gr .357. So many great 38 spl's out there to shoot 38's in. I was just wondering how many truly shoot .357 only?

I voted for .357 only, but I do reload some relatively light 158 Gr loads at 1000 FPS but in .357 brass as well as full house uberloudenearspilittingoboomers.
Maybe this is cheating?

I voted both. I only shoot 38 special +P ammo in my K framed, I shoot a 2:1 ratio, (38 special .357 Magnum) in my L frame, and .357 Magnum only in my N frame.

I shoot 357 only. I reload on a Dillon Square Deal and I don't like resetting the dies for 38's. Anyway I'm shooting a GP100 and don't want to shoot punny 38's anyway.:p

I use an SP-101 as my BUG when working full-time LE. When on my own time, I carry a GP-100. I load both with .357 Mag 110 grain JHPs.

My local indoor range does not allow magnums - something about the backstop rated for 1300 fps - so I shoot .38s something like 10:1.

Didn't research the shorter casing "crud ring" problem and am now sorry I bought a .357 (that ring is one stubborn cleaning job) :(. Wanted the versatility to shoot the magnums, but it's not worth extra cleaning effort for me.

May either trade my magnum for a 38 spec, or start reloading (light loads in .357 cases).

.357 only

I guess I should save some dough and get .38's for the range. But when I buy ammo always reach for .357 MAGNUM.

I did shoot a small amount of .38sp in my GP100 years ago but I don't do it currently, haven't for many years and I don't even own any .38sp ammo anymore.

GP100 gets nothing but nasty 1400fps 140 XTPs
Speed Six, Python, 686ssr all get remmie golden sabers or an equivelant reload.
The American Derringer has seen 6 real 357s  and the rest 38+p
the sp101, Dan Wesson and Blackhawks get either +p 38 158 LSWCHP or similarly loaded 158 LRNFP in 357 cases.

Most of the fodder for my GP100 is .357mag. But if a new shooter is trying it, I usually pick up some .38s.
Occasionally I'll also shoot 38s, but not very often

Probably breaks down to smoething like 80% mags and 20% specials

I only use 357 cases in my .357s, but 95% of them are reduced velocity loads that would make a factory .38 special load seem smoking hot. My typical load is a 125 gr TC over 4.0 grains of Bullseye, or a 158 gr SWC over 4.2 gr of trail boss.

Mostly .357 from the 6in. and mainly .38 from the 2.5in. Same gun different barrels. Yep, a Dan Wesson model 15.

My .357 is my dependable bed buddy. I practice on occasion using both but primary .357's. However, I keep it loaded at bedside with .38 +P Critical Defense ammo to reduce flash, over penetration and recoil for follow up shots.

I have multiple 357 magnums. Every thing from Derringers to J-frames to Large frame revolvers to a Coonan Classic to a lever action rifle. I want to buy a bolt action 77/357 Ruger some day but I may have some time before I can afford it.

Since I got my first 357 magnum (J-frame 640-1) I have only shot 357s in it (well mostly). Of all the 357 magnums I own I have only ever shot 38s in the Coonan and may be a box in the j-frame.

I voted 357 only but I have shot about 3 boxes of 38s in the past 15 years or so. I typically shoot a full box of 357s every Friday after work.
