First Handgun?

I am seriously considering the Sig, it's one of the few of which I haven't heard many (if any) bad comments.
I'll have to take a better look at it. At first blush it appeared to have some of the blueing worn off but I didn't pay real close attention beyond that as I was just browsing. I'll have to go back and get a closer look.

Another point, there simply is no data to suggest the 9mm is inferior to any other handgun cartridge. Heck, there's no data to show .25 Auto is inferior (in actual events) to 10mm. If only it were that simple. Handguns and gunfights just don't work that way.

no,but there is data on what kind of penetration is needed to be effective.the 9mm can reliably surpass that depth...doubt a .25 can.

Hey, this about my first handgun. I'm trying to avoid the age-old and unwinnable argument about caliber effectiveness. :barf:;)

My only complaint is that SIGs tend to be heavy for all day carry. That's my opinion anyway. That's why I refer Polymer guns.

Another could be that they are no longer "Made in Germany". Some people feel that the quality declined after the switch to the US manufacturing facility. I don't know as I've never owned one.

I'm a fan of guns with a hammer. I don't mind the striker system, but I like being able to fire in DA or precock the hammer for SA.

i prefer to shoot a DA/SA(92 is my favorite range gun),but i like having everything contained inside and the same trigger pull every time,on my carry guns.

One other complaint you'll hear about SIGs is that they have a high bore axis. It's true. They do. However, this does not seem to adversely affect their performance in any way. I have a SIG P220, it's a superb pistol in every respect.

Eh.... That sounds like a complaint from some a dem there high brow shooters;)

Haven't heard that one yet... no, wait... I guess I just did;)

Bore axis is a term thrown around for people to use as an excuse for not being able to gain proper grip and trigger technique. ;)

Actually, it'll have more to do with the amount of perceived recoil and muzzle flip.

Allow me to add one for you...
For almost all the popular Sig pistols, I've found their grips as comfortable as holding a piece of lumber in my hand. Square, blocky, non-fitting to my hand.

I have a similar complaint with CZ-75 based pistols - the safety lever is just a hair too far forward for me to reach without rotating my hand on the frame.

Thus...criteria #1 is making sure that the gun you select will fit your hand properly. That means being able to operate the gun and its main controls easily.

For your first time handgun, you need to go with a revolver. It's as simple to use as a hammer, light weight, utterly reliable, and powerful enough to do the job. S&W 642 is my personal choice.

I'll second the barely mentioned CZ P-01 9mm.

Very accurate and reliable and feels great in my hand. Some complain about the trigger, but for me it wasn't at all bad and has improved with over a few hundred rounds.

Seems many owners love 'em.

That depends on one's experience with firearms in general. My first pistol that I owned was a Glock 17. What people said was dangerous because of no safety, and all the reports of ND etc. I had no issue with it as my first pistol.

1st Handgun

Since you don't want to go the ".22 first" route, Glocks are great pistols. I have a penchant for .45s but 9mm and 40 will work. Own a Glock 36.

BTW - "No, the CITY of New York is an IMPOSSIBLE place to own a handgun."
A common misconception. I own five and none were particularly difficult to acquire. Expensive, though.

By impossible, I meant virtually, for most people, unless you have lawyer or are one. Unless, of course, you have had a permit for a very long time before the commie-socialist-liberals took over.;)

and my intention was mainly to highlight the fact that New York City and Everywhere Else New York are not one giant metropolis as so many out-of-staters seem to think.
