Question for the grandpas out there

I'm not a grandpa, but my best friend's kids are getting into shooting sports. They're in their 20's. As time goes on, I get as much satisfaction from helping them learn as I do shooting personally. Oh, I'll blast off a few, but I like being the "range buddy" to help them out. Anyone...

Any other flashlight junkies out there?

At last count, I think I've got eight. I just love having a bunch of flashlights. Several have been converted to EverLED bulbs, http://www.leddynamics.com/EverLED/ They came in very handy here a couple of years ago when we had the big east coast power failure. I've got a couple of UPSs to...

    Remington 365 mini-dehumidifier

I got a pair of these today to put in the safe, thanks to some very good advice from a fellow TFL member. I wish I could remember who to give him credit for suggesting them. Built-in plug and only draws 22 watts for 10 hrs. to "recharge." Much cheaper than running a 300 degree oven for 3 hrs...

    I think I got lucky

I really wanted a Beretta Cheetah 87 standard (not the target model) in .22LR. I bid fairly high for it on gunbroker.com, and now I have it. Beretta seems to have dropped it from their catalog, and I'm happy as a pig in you-know-what. It's a jewel of blue steel and walnut. Just a plinker...

    A tribute to smithys...

When I got my Ithaca 200, I told the smithy I wanted a recoil pad installed, and the length-of-pull lengthend by 1/2". He did that, for maybe $30, and it looked like brand new. I'll never mess with a firearm again (I've messed up one) without going to a good smithy. My hat's off to all you...

    Ejector springs

I located a source for ejector springs for my Ithaca/SKB 200 shotgun. I don't really need them (the original ones broke), but I thought I'd try to keep the shotgun 100% pure. And they were only 30 bucks.

    My new toy box

It's not the fanciest thing, but it's the biggest one I could haul into one of the upstairs bedrooms. I didn't want them out in the garage. At one time I wanted a fine wood-and-glass gun cabinet, but anymore, I think a steel gunsafe with a three-bolt lock is probably a better idea.

#4 Buck. I probably should have asked first

I know I should have asked you all first, but I ordered a couple of boxes of #4 12-gauge Magnum buckshot, for HD and fun out on the farm. I've got a few rounds of 000 12-gauge Magnums, but I'm worried that they might be bad as far as overpenetration goes. I've read that #4 buck is is a good HD...

Don't mess with the Polk cty. FL Sheriff

MIAMI - A fugitive gunman accused of killing a Florida sheriff’s deputy was shot 68 times by SWAT team officers who found him hiding in the woods, according to autopsy results. Police fired 110 shots at Angilo Freeland, 27, the target of a massive manhunt in central Florida following the...

    Want a cheap holster?

Holds my Beretta 87 just fine, and should work with most any 9mm auto. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/itemfind.asp?catalog=ZAA-101 Nice quality, and at seven bucks, you can't beat the price for a leather holster. No telling how long before they sell out of these things.

If anyone is interested, cheaperthandirt.com http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/itemfind.asp?catalog=ZAA-101 has some nice looking surplus leather holsters for less than 8 bucks. I've already ordered one.

    Got my new toy today

A Beretta 87 Cheetah in .22LR, and I just can't stop playing with it. I've field-strpped it, cleaned it, ordered another magazine for it, well, you get the idea. I'm one happy camper. I had a Beretta once before, a Jetfire, but it was chambered for .22 short, and not all that useful. I did...

    FBI for an FFL tansfer?

I went to my FFL to pick up a firearm that was coming in from out of state. He called the FBI (!) to verify if I was legal. I've had them call the local PD before, but not the FBI. Has anyone else had that experience? It wasn't a big deal, and I have my new firearm here at home, but it just...

    Dangerous ordnance?

I found this on the State of Ohio website: § 2923.12. Carrying concealed weapons. (A) No person shall knowingly carry or have, concealed on the person's person or concealed ready at hand, any of the following: (1) A deadly weapon other than a handgun; (2) A handgun other than a...

    New grips

I inherited a High Standard DM101 .22 Magnum derringer from my late father. I've always liked the little gun but hated the white plastic grips. After much searching, I managed to locate some nice walnut grips, which I think are much nicer. I'm sure dad would approve.

    I need your help - Which .22?

I've got this itch to buy a Ruger MarkIII Standard. I already have a couple of good .22s, .22Mag, .357Mag, and 12-gauges. The Smith M35 has gone up so much in value that I'm thinking she might turn into a "safe queen" and maybe I should get something to drag to the range or the farm. The...

No aluminum CCI blazers in the Marlin 1894C

I think I know now why they advise against using them. Out at my friend's farm yesterday, we shot some factory-loaded Winchester 145gr Silvertips, and ALL of them had bulged cases. I'm thinking that the aluminum-cased Blazers would just split in half. They work fine in a revolver, but don't...

    Handgun shot loads

I got to try some 9mm shotshells (#11) out of a Beretta 92F yesterday, and they seem to be just about as useless as the .22LR (#12) loads out of my revolver. Max range seemed to be about 6'. Does anyone know a use for these things, or did I just waste my money?

    Just gave away a rifle

Not a big deal, an old Savage .22 single-shot to one of my shooting buddies. He's got 5 kids ranging in age from 5 to 17, and it should be a good starter. I got it (also for free) more years ago than I care to remember. It's still in plenty good condition. It felt good to pass that along to...
