S&W Model 25 LC, Mountain Gun

I was window shopping other guns when this caught my eye. I did not get a chance to see the '-' revision #. They come with Kim Ahrends grips and it has a 4" barrel. It is blued. Can anybody tell me if I should watch out or beware of any revision numbers? Can a .45 LC S&W take the heaviest...

    J.B. Custom 1982 Mare's Leg

Has anybody shot a J.B. Custom 1892 Mare's leg? It appears as a cut-down lever action and is in some large bore revolver rounds as well as .357 Magnum. This looks intriguing to me when I look at the ad in American Handgunner. Failing that, has anybody seen a review for this? I should say that...

    Miculek grips - comments?

I have a S&W 19 and don't like the target type grips that it came with. I think the bottom of the grips bell out too much. I'm looking around at different grips right now. What are your experiences and comments on the Miculek type grips?

    Performance Center markings?

Do revolvers (or any guns) that come out of the S&W Performance Center have specific markings showing it came from there?

    Proper use of demooning tool

What is the right way to use the pipe type of demooning tool? The graphic I saw that showed how to use one said to twist, but it looks like it is meant to lever out the empty case.

    'Endshake'?

Please define the term 'end shake' for me. How much play is acceptable? At what point is it an issue?

    Is $125 a good price for a Marlin 60?

The Marlin comes without box or manual. The same store has a Mossberg 702 with a synthetic stock and a Winchester in .22LR (forgot model number) for about the same price. What I can see of the insides seems in good condition. I don't have a rifle, so I think a .22 LR with iron sights is a...

Please help me with date of manufacture of two S&Ws

I'd like to know what year a couple of S&W revolvers were made. The first is a 25-2, s/n N900XXX The next is a 19-3, sn K916XXX Thanks.

    S&w 19-4?

I have seen much written about the S&W 19-3 and how it appears to be the epitome of S&W revolver manufacturing. But the 19-4 seems to have the hallmark features of the 19-3 that are pointed to as signs of better workmanship and quality control - the recessed cylinder and the serrated trigger...

S&W 586-1: Any known problems or did they get it right the first time?

I am always wary of the first run of anything. I went window shopping and found a S&W 19-4 with a 4" barrel and a 586-1 with a 6" barrel. Both look good to me, but at least I can find information on the 19-4. So were there any known problems with the 586-1 that should make me walk away?

Hammer Spur on a non-carry gun:wide or narrow?

For the most part, on semi-autos the hammer spurs are roughly the same width and length. Of course there are the commander type variations, but in general they are about the same. On revolvers, I have seen some with extra-wide spurs while being shorter (and also off-set spurs). Gun magazine...

Taurus Tracker grips - good? Affect accuracy?

I have seen the Taurus Tracker written up and seen them in cases in the gun stores. Writers in the gun rags keep saying how good the wierd rubber grips are in absorbing recoil, but I wonder how good they really are. The porting must take care of quite a bit. Because they can shift, I assume...

    Best brand of moon clips?

Is there any one brand of moon clips that are considered superior to the rest?

Is there any use for the half and third moon clips?

Is it any easier to get shells into and out of the one-half and one-third moon clips compared to a full moon clip? Would there be any useful purpose to either in comparison to the full moon clip?

Which revolver is considered the best DA Colt?

Many seem to point to the S&W 19-3 (and other K-frames) as being the height of S&W workmanship and quality. Recessed chambers show extra care, smooth trigger, etc. Which model and production run is the Colt DA revolver equivalent?

    'Blue Nickel' finish?

Just saw a revolver today with a so called 'blue nickel' finish. How well does it wear? Does it really have nickel in it, or is it just a name? Which solvents are bad for it? Is it the same as nickel finishes where I need to avoid Hoppes #9?

What is a "diamond insert grip" of some 19-3's?

I find mention that in 1968, the S&W 19-3 got rid of the 'diamond insert grips'. Unfortunately, no pictures. I am curious about what this looks like. Can anybody explain this to me? Or, even better, post a picture?

    Triggers: Serrated vs. non-serrated

Is one better than the other? Do each have its strengths, one being good for double-action shooting while the other is good for single-action? Or is a serrated trigger just another sign that more time was put into making a revolver while confering no practical advantages in and of itself?

Which revolvers are pinned and recessed?

Was S&W the only one to do this? Having recently bought a S&W 19-3, I have become more interested in the history of revolvers. These features are mentioned as a sign of quality. But I see than some S&W's never had these features at all.

    Can a S&W 625 handle the .45 Magnum?

Can I fire the .45 magnum from a 625 safely? Don't want to find out the hard way.
