In my experience, it seems like 1911s tend to break extractors every 5-6 k rounds. Is there any way to prevent this, short of keeping a spare on hand? Anyone else notice this?

Is it true that you have to replace the locking block on a 92 every 5k rounds? I heard this before somewhere, and I was just reading Stephen Camp's PT-92 review. He said on the Taurus 92 you need to change the barrel lugs ever 5 k rounds, just like on the beretta. Checked Beretta's website...
