Got the full length, steel guide rod for my CZ-97 today...

...And installed the 22-lb recoil spring. I'll start with that, and work down to see what my gun likes best. Coincidentally, I also recieved my box of 50 rounds of Buffalo Bore .45ACP +P FMJ Flat Nose ammo today, and will run that through the gun tomorrow, as well as the 20 rounds of Triton...

Go back in time 20 years.

Let's say it's 1980, or better yet, 1981, the year I was born. Let's also say you walked into a gun shop. What kinds of semiautos would you see on the shelves back then? I ask because a lot of the most popular ones today hadn't been invented yet. Of course you'd have your 1911s, mostly...

    .223 Rifle Choices

What all's out there in the .223 Semiauto Department, besides the most prevalent AR-15? I'm not in the market for one right now (nor do I expect to be in the near future), but I'm just curious. Here're things as I see them: Robinson Armament VEPR II & VEPR K .223 Pros: Reliable, only $549 or...

    Strange Dreams

I had a dream last night, in which I was carrying a .357 revolver of some sorts. Don't remember anything else about the dream, other than I had the revolver. Huh. Looks like I'll have to buy one, now. Next month, hopefully. A good wheelgun won't set you back nearly so much as a self loader...

    I need practice

Took my FAL out to the range the past two mornings. This morning my targets were 8 1/2 x 11" pieces of paper with crosshairs drawn in them with magic marker. Ranges were 100 and 200 yards. The rifle hit spot on at 100 yards, as it does at 50 and less. However, I fired more of a pattern than...

Took CZ-97B out for the first time

During my first trip to my range this morning (never shot there before), I took my CZ-97B and my FAL. I put 100 rounds of S&B 230gr FMJ through the CZ, as well as 20 rounds of Winchester 230gr JHP. One of the JHPs didn't feed on the first try, and that was the CZ's only hiccup during the...

    My CZ-97B

A picture. Sorry if it's fuzzy; took it with a 35mm and had Wal-Mart save it to CD, and then I had to use paintbrush to downsize it, so it's fuzzy.

You're the director: Make your own gunfights!

Okay, I and other TFLers periodically drag this topic up from time to time, but it's always interesting and lets everybody rack up post counts. Heh. Let's say you were the director of a movie. Big budget, indy film, whatever you want. You want some gunfights in it. What would you like to...

Permits up, as concealed gun law anniversary nears. (from my local paper)

Copper Country firearm owners still don’t like statute’s restrictions By STEVE NEAVLING Gazette Writer HOUGHTON — Nearly a year after the state Legislature changed the concealed weapons law to make it easier to get a permit, some gun owners say too many restrictions still thwart their right...

Just brought home my new CZ-97B!

Well folks, it's here at last. My CZ-97B is right here by my side. I got the permit to purchase, paid the six bucks, and had it registered, as per MI law. On the plus side, the permit to purchase requirment means you don't have to go through the NICS check, which was nice. The Sheriff was...

    How do they do it?

Ever wonder how companies like Bryco, Jennings, Lorcin, Hesse, etc. stay in business? Hell, Bryco was the 2nd largest producer of handguns in 2000, according to the BATF (second only to Ruger). Think about that. Have you ever heard ANYone say ANYTHING good about a Bryco? How could a company...

    Grrr....lame ammo selection!

Went to both a local gunshop and then Wal-Mart today, looking for some .45ACP +P ammo to try out in my CZ-97B. The gunshop had a few 20 round boxes of Federal Hydra-Shoks, 230gr, but they weren't +P. The other stuff? Wolf, Winchester White Box, PMC, UMC. FMJ target loads. Okay, head to...

    Sigma 40

There was a used S&W Sigma .40 in the shop today that a buddy of mine was eyeballing. Said he liked how it fit his hand, didn't mind what I thought was a horrid trigger, and the $260 price is right. I don't know anything about the Sigmas, other than that Glock once sued them for patent...

    Hi-Power Clone: Questions

There was a Hi-Power clone in the shop today that caught my interest, especially with the $300 price tag. The importers marks said KBI, but the original rollstamp on the slide says "FEG" and "Made in Hungary". Is this pistol decent quality? Is it reliable enough to be worth the $300 bucks...

    Finally Made the Choice!

I just returned from the gun store, having ordered my choice. It'll be in Tuesday. I was tempted by several things there, including a Walther P99/.40 for $537, a used S&W 1076 for $529, and a CZ-40B for $375. But I placed my order. On Tuesday, most likely my brand new .45 caliber CZ-97B in...

    Ruger controls question

Please observe the picture. What is that little metal tab above the grip, mounted on the frame, right below the safety lever?

    Subcombact .45s

What are the options for a subcompact .45 auto? I know of the Glock 30/36, the Taurus (which has a questionable repuation), the Para LDA 6.45 (which is not getting good reviews on 1911 forum, it would seem) the various subcompact 1911s, and that's all I can think of. Is there anything else?
