Shot a Marlin turnbolt in .17 HRM this weekend...

HRM, HMR, whatever. Friend of mine bought it - about $200.00. Anyway, it was one little neat, ACCURATE gun, even with me firing - using a Millett scope at about 6 power. Got some teensy 7-shot groups at 50 yards - under 1 inch not counting fliers - that even with a strong variable wind, which...

Where is the US Army Ordnance Museum?

Last night on the Discovery channel, on a program called "Future Guns", they were walking through this museum, and it looked very cool. I want to plan a future vacation to include it or the NRA museum in Virginia, or both.

ABC's This Week discussion about arming pilots

I thought it instructive to point out Cokie Roberts' comments during the discussion/debate. George Will spoke in favor of arming pilots, Cokie is adamantly opposed. George Steph...etc. is more or less for it, and Sam D. was more or less against it. First, Cokie says that she doesn't want...

    1911 Fans

Can anyone please answer my last two questions here: http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=109927 Thanks very much. Primarily, I need to know the pros and cons of the 1-piece vs. 2-piece guide rod for this pistol.

    Springfield Longslide V16 .45 Super/acp questions/comments

Just came home with this (see pic), after being delayed yesterday by NICS - grrrr. Already ordered a Milt Sparks belt slide; 12-14 week wait. Grrrr. And ordered Hogue tulipwood smooth finger groove grips. It came with 2 recoil springs - 1 for super and 1 for acp. Came with 2 mags. Edges...

Para-ordnance standard cap mags - cheap

Was in the gunstore today. Seems that Para essentially "forgot" how many of these it had stocked in a warehouse somewhere, and so now is marking them down to get rid of them. 12, 13, and 15 rounders going for $60/65 retail. They were about $45 pre-ban, I believe, so not a bad price.

I'll be a sharpshooter by Sunday

if all goes well..... Getting the Lasik procedure today at 1:30 pm. My eyesight will go from -7.0 dioptes correction to close to 20/20 if they don't screw up. I'm pretty pumped. Hopefully I won't see double any more (for a few years at least) when shooting with iron sights. Has anyone had...

Is the "SigPro" series a complete flop?

Man, they're the most aesthetically pleasing "modern design" pistol I've ever seen - beautiful, but after the initial marketing hype when they were released, you never hear anyone talk about them - only the 220, 225, 226, 228, 229.... Are they just the answer to a question no one asked?

Anti-gun message of the movie "Jakob the Liar" and historical question

Just rented this last night. I am thoroughly disgusted by the weak, lame, did I mention WEAK and LAME ending of this movie, and it's anti-gun message, both directly and symbolically, IMO. If you didn't see it, Jacob Heim, played by Robin Williams, is is a Jew in the Warsaw ghetto towards the...

It's that time of year again

No, not Knob Creek. Time to continue with the tradition I started last year. Each spring for the last few years, every state and their dog starts running TV and other ads about why you should visit/vacation in their state. These are paid for by the state's tourism dept. Anyway, for...

    FAL - which bbl length?

An FAL has been at the top of my list for some time. I've read the recent threads about FALs, including the recent one at Tactical Forums (thank you, Mad Dog), and finally have a little cash rounded up, so I think I'm going to get a DSL. Near as I can tell, there's only two barrels lengths...

    Heinie sights for Glock

I was going to order some slant pros, and the Heinie website says "Easy Installation; No Gunsmithing". Does that mean "no gunsmithing as long as you also order the $23.00 Glock front sight tool" they sell? If so, seems to me the sights cost too much, all tolled.

    Non-lead bullets for .22s

I put this in General because it applies to .22 hanguns and rifles (and other calibers for that matter). Well, this may seem a little exteme perhaps, but in light of my (fairly extreme) concern for our environment, I do want to do my part to keep it clean. Well, we all know that lead can be...

Is being a gun owner/shooter hazardous to your health?

Serious question, but I don't mean from gunshots. What I mean is, are we at significantly greater risk of cancer and other maladies from years of exposure, both through the skin and respiration, of: 1. Solvents/bore cleaners 2. Petroleum products (oils, etc.) 3. Gunsmoke/gunpowder when...

Kydex Holster for Kimber 3" bbl 1911

OK, my requirements are: 1. PADDLE holster (NOT IWB or BS), kydex, black color, open top, speed cut, comfortable, high quality. 2. Must have an adjustable "opposing tooth", or be built specifically for 1 1/8" to 1 1/4" belts - 1 1/2 or more belt-width-accomodating will be too big for my use...

Custom-order bumber sticker & whatnot company for gun slogans

Anyone have some contact infor for a good company that can custom make specific bumper stickers, etc.? There is an ad in this month's American Rifleman encouraging folks to pick up Springfield 1903s through the CMP - paid for by CMP, I suppose. Is this new, or has this been available for some time?
