    .338 Federal accuracy

I recently read a Field and Stream catalog that tested a .338 federal. I do not recall the rifle manufacturer, but accuracy was very poor. IIRC, the average groups for 3 shots was like 2" or more! Is this a potentially accurate caliber? I understand it was with factory ammo, but still.

Anyone know the degrees of bolt lift for a T3 Tikka?

    reduced loadings

Anyone have any experience in loading a 300WSM or 325 WSM to about 2600fps with a 180 grain bullet. I am desiring a load just less than the published minimums, and am wondering if expecting 1" or less groups are attainable (all else being equal) with reduced loads. Would I stil be using the...

    caliber help...

I have decided I am going to get another Browning A bolt soon. I want short action, and will use it mostly for open timber woods hunting. Shots can be quite long, but are usually from 50-120 yds. I had a .308 in an A bolt, and the twist was only 1:12. I had no luck getting really great...

    Side by side shotgun identification.

I was fortunate enough to inherit some nice guns from my Grandfather before and after he passed away. One of these is a 12 gauge side by side that bears the name Crescent Fire Arms Co. Norwich, Conn. USA. THe model is stated as "Peerless Model" and teh serial number is 245***. I am curious...

    .338 Federal question

Who is chambering the .338 Federal? As my name implies, I prefer Browning and they do not currently chamber it. Does anyone know if they will, or if any other comapnies are chambering it? Maybe I will have to get a .325WSM and load it really light to try to produce the same ballistics.

    SA revolver barrel shortening?

Anyone know a ballpark price to shorten the barrel of a Ruger SBH Bisley Barrel. Note, the ejector rod does not go the length of the barrel. How much harder would it be if it did?

    Uberti revolvers question

Can they handle hot ammo like a Ruger? I want a SA .45 Colt with no more than a 4" bbl or so, and Ruger isn't offering many SA's. I really want a Bisley with a 4" bbl, but no one I know has ever seen one. I am asking about the toughness because while I intend to shoot it mainly at targets...

    No Grips...

I can't find a rubber grip for my Ruger SBH Bisley .44 mag. I like the look of the wood, but for hunting, and for that matter, target, I would like the rubber grip. Any ideas?

    Star subcompact price?

I have the chance to buy a star subcompact .40 S&W from a friend. I believe it is a single stack and it is stainless steel. What would be a decent price for this gun. It is in mint condition with box and paperwork. He paid $400 for it new. This would be my first semi auto purchase.

    Got my new GP 100

Well, new to me at least. It is a 3" model with a full lug, and is blued. It looks like it has not been used much. Even fits well in a IWB holster! (I am big enough to conceal it well). I am going to the range with it tomorrow for the first time. :D

    GP 100 question

I have never owned a concealed carry gun before, and I am going to get one soon. I really liked the 3" GP 100 I handled at the gun shop the other day. I am 6'2" and 280 lbs. Is this gun too big for me to concealed carry? I was thinking the SP 101 might be better, but the GP fits my hand a...

    Ruger Super Blackhawk questions

I just picked up my Bisley 44 SBH. The cylinder removal pin is not removeable...meaning it stays on the gun when the cylinder is removed. I have never seen this before and was wondering if it is normal and if it tells the age of the gun? Also I had to use pliers with a rag over it to get it...

    Finally got my CCW permit!!!!

I am so excited. I have been wanting my permit for a LONG time and I finally got it. I was told it would take 3-6 months, and it came today, only 2 months wait. Still way to long, but I am just happy to have the privilege. (I know it is a right, but not here in NY as much). The permits all...

    New load problem

I had a load worked up for my .308 with a 165 Nosler Ballistic Tip and 43.0 grains of Varget with a Federal 210 primer that was shooting quite well. If you read my other post, you see I have lost all confidence in this primer, so I bought 1,00 210M primers the other day assuming they were...

    Federal 210 primers

Tis question is regarding Federal 210 primers...anyone ever had a misfire with one? I have reloaded for a few years now, and have never had a misfire with anything. I do not handle any primer with my fingers and they are stored properly. I have a really accurate 150 grain load for my .308...

    need help with 308 load

I have tried H-4895, and Varget with no good results shooting a Nosler Ballistic tip 165 gr or a Combined Technologies 168gr ballistic silvertip. The charge weights I tried for the H-4895 were from 40.5-44.0gr. in half grain increments. The varget loads I tried were 45.0-46.0 in half grain...

    H-110 or H-4227

In regards to loading the 44 mag I see in my load data that H-110 offers more velocity than H-4227, but my question is how stable is it to temperature. In pictures, I do not see the "Extreme" symbol on the can. The H-4227 does have it. What do you guys think. I will be hunting and shooting...

    scoped revolver holster

Anybody have any recommendations. It will be for a Super Blackhawk Bisley with a 7.5"bbl and a Leupold 2x20mm scope. I have the uncle mikes one from Cabelas for a 6" and it is fine, but the velcro is really loud in the woods. ;)

    model 93 marlin

I was given a marlin model 93 30-30 with serial number 50X. It says simply 30-30 on the barrel (not 30-30 win) and says something about the sight being pattented January 1901. It also says <special smokelss steel> on the barrel. The barrel is round. Anyone know when it was made and what it...
