    Dan vs Les

Ok, there is a price difference, about a grand. That said, I get different views from folks, which may be like politics, I hope not. Dan Wesson has a good reputation, and sells to the dealer market. Les Baer has a good reputation, and charges for specialty stuff, IMHO, as well as guaranteeing...

    Wisdom from a gunsmith

My favorite gunsmith, whose main work is building competition 1911's, told me that the culprit behind SWC not feeding properly is not the feed ramp but the magazine. He said they trim about 0.030 off the mag lip to help feeding SWC rounds. Is this news? It certainly was to me.

    Stainless vs Black Steel

This for the metallurgists in the crowd. A semi auto pistol slides a lot. I have a vague memory of stainless being more likely to wear, and in bearings, gall, i.e. roughen its surface after long hard use. Is that the case in pistols? Will a stainless slide wear out faster than a carbon steel...

    45 question: RIA or Springfield?

I have a really good Springfield Tactical that has had some work done on it, making it a great target (my only use for guns at the moment) pistol. Being a collector, how does RIA Match Elite 45 stack up against the good Springfield offerings?

    Experience with TCM 22?

I just learned of the existence of this critter, it would seem a thrill seeker or two would have got one.

    Magazines for Tangfolio Defiant 45acp

I see where some say the magazines are the same a CZ 97, but I have both and the CZ mags don't click into place on the Tangfolio. Mec Gar offers them and are sold out. Any other makers of these Magazines, 10 round acp. The pistol is the Defiant Stock Master.

Need test for load vs accuracy

Since shooting 95% 45acp, I have settled on a bullet shape, one powder, and the correct OAL for a jam-free shoot. Today I went to the range and shot the following, all from a rather unsteady wooden shelf. the following loads, with 200grain copper-coated HP with the following of 231 Winchester...

Value of mint Browning Hi Power

I good friend was given a Browning Hi Power some years ago-he is not a shooter and wanted to know its value. New in the box, never fired. I told him to will it to his grandchildren.

Need extra mags for Springfield 1911 45

I have a good shooting Springfield tactical 45acp 1911k, and want to buy 3 additional mags. Rather than pay $50 ea, it seems a lot of folks offer 45 mags in the $25 range. Question: whose will fit my pistol??

Any danger in reseating loaded bullets?

Ok, I have about 100 SWC 45acp loaded with light loads of 231, about 4.3gr. they are giving me trouble in chambering, so I made up a new batch with a deeper bullet seating, giving an OAL of 1.245 in, which chamber nicely. The question: will I create a hazardous condition if I put the already...

Source of wrenches for 550B Dillon

Ok, I am being cheap, I know Dillon sells them, but the prices are my problem, maybe I'm too old, but anyway, surely somebody sells 7/8 and 1 inch open wrenches for less??:(

    Replacing firing pin

Ok, I got it out, no prob. Putting it back reminds me of the story about sticking a wet noodle up a wildcats rear end. I saw the videos- looks like video magic. I get the damn pin in but cannot get it to snap back into the retainer. Any wisdom here? ( on a 1911 A1 Springfield 45.)

    Springfield 1911-A1 recoil springs

I have a used pistol that is in good shape, seems to have the mother of all recoil springs in it, and want to change that to a spring compatible with my low power hand loads, aka 4.0gr of W 231 being a 200gr SWC. The standard spring is 16#, so I am thinking 12? suggestions about this??

    Feed problems: gun or ammo?

This may belong in the handloading aisle, but what do I know: I have several SAR 45's all bought in the same year, two stainless and one in blue/black. The stainless seem to accept hand loaded 45acp's better than the blue/black. Also the compact stainless is better than the full size stainless...

    Need help with Sig sight

I am the more or less happy owner of a Sig 220 Match Elite 45acp, no longer made, significantly different from your regular 220. In my efforts to mount an optic on the pistol, while removing the rear adjustable sight, I lost the damn spring that raises the rear sight up and down when the screw...

    Hexagon HP in 45

I got some Norma HP in 45, their "Hexagon" hollow points. They really punch good holes in a target. That's the good news. The bad is that they are hot for my old hands to shoot very many. My roll your own tend to go in the 700 or so fps, where these are said to be around 850. Does anybody make...

Why do some people shoot better with 4inch vs 6 inch barrels.

I realize the majority says the longer barrel on your favorite pistol allows for a more precise sight picture, and I understand the geometry just fine. What I don't understand is why I, me personally, shoot a 4-inch barrel auto pistol of the same make better at 25 yds or less than I do a 6 inch...

Trigger jobs on most hammer fired 45acp

As a collector of 45's, I lean heavily toward all-steel: hammer-fired pistols, and I quite often get them tuned for a nice trigger pull as I do also shoot bullseye. The question: Is there any reason a pistol with the usual mechanisms, like Sig, HK, Walther SAR, etc cannot be tuned to a SA pull...

The effect of use on trigger performance

As a serious collector/bullseye shooter, mostly of 45acp, I have about six or seven 45's, not counting 1911's. Some have been to the gunsmith and have really great triggers, SA I have no idea about the DA as I never shoot DA. I recently added 3 SAR K2-45's in various trim to the collection...

    Velocity and accuracy

as a purely recreational shooter of 45acp, I tend toward kinder gentler loads. I occurs to me as a retired technical person, that there is probably a relationship between velocity and accuracy. Right now, I have coated and plated 200gr swc rounds and some 185 swc coated I haven't tried yet...
