    I wanna be a cowboy

Went to an auction hopeing to get an S&W M 17 .22. When that went way over budget I thought I'd try my luck on a Winchester 94, kind of as a replacement for my first deer rifle and the same thing happened. Then for the heck of it I bid on this 1972 Marlin 336 and the bidding stopped well below...

The musket that won the revolution. Happy 4th

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charleville_musket While several countries aided the American colonies against the British Empire, it was the French that sent the most material aid. Much of that aid was in the form of the Charleville M 1763 and other variants. The story of Adams and...

    Old musket ID

As some of you might remember I work at an auction company, Sunsetauction.com. Recently a cosigner sent us an old musket that he claims is from between 1550 and 1650, with a more modern percussion cap lock added in the 1800s. We tend to doubt what the guy claims for several reasons. Let's look...

    Price check on P-08 Luger

So I work at an auction company and sometimes we get firearms from the estates we clear up. While clearing a storage closet I opened a bag and said "my look at the Luger". After checking to see it was safe I turned it over to the boss so I don't know whether it's matching or not...

    .50bmg and international law.

In another thread it was suggested that the .50bmg is not used as a anti-personnel round because it is forbidden under the Geneva convention. It is my contention that is not the case. However I have been told by a former Ranger and sniper that it is against international law. I have also been...

Lights cameras and my new Model 64

Thanks to this post http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=523761 I was able to order a police buy back S&W 64. When I went to pick up the gun the block where the pawn shop sits was blocked off. There were at least a half dozen cop cars and an aid truck lights flashing with lots of...

    Reintroducing the wisent to Germany.

Listened to this story on the radio today. http://www.npr.org/2013/04/01/174037372/german-prince-plans-to-put-bison-back-in-the-wild snip Wish I had a spare 30,000 acres. Not sure what animal I'd like to introduce. Given that they can now clone extinct paleolithic animals, maybe the Great...

Sheep skin and long term rifle storage.

I was recently gifted with a sheep skin rifle case with the hair on the inside. I've been told to avoid leaving my rifles in cloth lined cases because they hold moisture. Would the same thing be true of sheep skin?

Any thoughts on the Beretta 948?

I haven't seen the gun myself yet, this picture is all I got so far. Is this a tip up? Google didn't give me a definitive answer on that. Is this a fun gun to shoot? It looks like it would be fun for short range plinking. About what do these go for? Gunbroker was all over the place on price.

Price check on aisle 15 and 19.

I'm looking at an S&W Model 15 and Model 19 both are in similar condition and both are priced at $449. The price for the 15 seems a bit high, but gunbroker.com says it's not out of line. The Model 19 is about the right price in my mind but low for gunbroker. I'd prefer the 15 because I like...

Currahee! A Screaming Eagle At Normandy.

Early in the Battle of the Bulge elements of the 506 Parachute Regiment, 10th Armored and some tank destroyers were cut off from Bastogne when the German's took the town of Foy. During the fighting withdrawal, Paratrooper Donald Burgett boards a truck with a .50 caliber machine gun mounted. The...

http://news.yahoo.com/favorite-guns-republicans-running-president-152609570.html Probably not the most important thing you need to know about a candidate and certainly not a complete article, it is a bit interesting. Hope this doesn't devolve into politics.

    Remington 700 question.

A friend is looking at this Model 700 http://salesroom.sunsetauction.com/photos/10292011nextnight/nextnight079.jpg I haven't had a chance to handle the gun yet, it's supposed to be in very good condition. It has an aluminum butt plate. That's what I'd like to know about. Did Remington ship...

    Little fellow followed me home.

I work at an auction and just bid on this Savage single shot .22 just in case it went for next to nothing. I was going to drop out at $70, bidding stopped at $65. I had expected the gun to go over $100. Now all I have to decide, is which grandkid gets it.
