+1 on what others have said about using .38 +P ammo instead of .357.
I'll second that. The .357 Magnum was designed to be a hunting cartridge, and although many LEOs have carried it, that's probably more than you need for HD. .38Spl +P should work well, especially for a smaller person. That's my favorite.
