In GA, our CCW has a prohibition against carrying during "public gatherings" but the AG has issued a statement saying that a mall is not to be considered a "public gathering" as you are going there to purchase goods, not to go to a "gathering" of any type. That means, unless it's clearly posted at the entrances, you can carry at a mall in GA, and I do regularly.

I have never seen a sign on the Katy Mills mall that prohibits ccw here in texas. Now Bass pro shops in the Katy Mills mall clearly states no firearms.

I have mixed feelings about buying stuff from them because of it.

According to the Mills Corporation, every mall they run is posted, even in the state of Texas (Funny how they specifically mentioned Texas). At each entrance, there is a sign with the "rules of the mall". Now, you being in the great state of Texas, if the sigh doesn't have the correct verbiage, size etc, you can ignore it and just be ejected if caught. Here in NC, I can be charged and lose my CCW...

Oracle...

I've never been able to get a definitive on this... does a movie theater comprise a "gathering"? I mean, it's a bunch of folks going to the same place for the same reason....

Anyway, I went to to the Mall about a year ago, on a Friday night for a last minute Maw-in-law present... I carried my P32. I was the LEAST ARMED person in that place, judging from the grips poking throught the jerseys of the large "groups" of color co-ordinated youths.

I don't go to the mall anymore on Friday nights. When I do go, a Kahr P40 and 2 spare mags go with me. I'm sure that multiple assailants is a sure bet if that situation ever exploded!

No signs on our malls... (yet).

Since I wore long pants with an untucked Hawaiian shirt (stupid stupid..it was 92 here yesterday).....

I had my SA v-10 in my galco NSAII IWB holster. and my Keltec p-11 on my ankle. A spare .45 mag on my left hip, and a Keltec p-32 with a 10 rd mag in my pocket. A CRKT sampson's kiss in my other pocket.

But I forgot about the terrorists...I was just going to the mall with my bride (she went to the gunshow with me on Saturday)

Oh and if you're an LEO, I left all this in the car when I got out at the mall......

Cheers

Disgrutntled employees sand mentals shoot up malls...terrorists yell some rediculous religious credo then blow themselves up...if carrying makes you feel safer go ahead...but your gun will be about as useful as a slingshot was on top of the world trade center...

Texas2NC,

If they put a sign up it must have been recently. I was out at Katy Mills about 2 weeks back and I specifically looked for a sign. No sign, no worries and I avoided Bass pro shop.

You are right about the signs. In Texas it has to be "just so" or it aint right and it don't matter.

Grapevine Mills is posted but Bass Pro is not (DFW area).

Here is the guideline for posting from TX DPS.

PROHIBITING HANDGUNS IN A BUSINESS OR OTHER ENTITY

In order to provide notice that entry on property by a license holder with a concealed handgun is forbidden, Penal Code Section 30.06(c)(3)(A) requires that a written communication contain the following language:

"PURSUANT TO SECTION 30.06, PENAL CODE (TRESPASS BY HOLDER OF A LICENSE TO CARRY A CONCEALED HANDGUN) A PERSON LICENSED UNDER SUBCHAPTER H, CHAPTER 411, GOVERNMENT CODE (CONCEALED HANDGUN LAW), MAY NOT ENTER THIS PROPERTY WITH A CONCEALED HANDGUN."

"CONFORME A LA SECCIÓN 30.06 DEL CÔDIGO PENAL (TRASPASAR PORTANDO ARMAS DE FUEGO) PERSONAS CON LICENCIA BAJO DEL SUB-CAPITULO H, CAPITULO 411, CODIGO DE GOBIERNO (LEY DE PORTAR ARMAS), NO DEBEN ENTRAR A ESTA PROPIEDAD PORTANDO UN ARMA DE FUEGO."

Penal Code Section 30.06(c)(3)(B) further states that a sign must meet the following requirements:

i. includes the language described by Paragraph (A) in both English and Spanish;
ii. appears in contrasting colors with block letters at least one inch in height; and
iii. is displayed in a conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public.

I wonder if terrorist organizations are buying stock in 'online shopping sites' now? Similar to the way some of them were 'selling short' airline stock before 9/11 ?

I'd imagine that all it will take is a few 'incidents' to make malls about as popular as an anthrax infested building, speaking of which, something like anthrax or smallpox might be a more likely 'weapon of choice', rather than 'suicide bombing', if these warnings are valid?

Online shopping would probably quadruple, as a result?

Too true... I've said the same thing to people who ask me if I've started stocking extra ammo since "9-11". Impossible to stop an anthrax attack with a .40 S&W, unless the guy comes to my door, points an aerosol can at me, and says "in the name of Allah, die you infidel yankee dog!" or some other such long winded nonsense...

But, as my earlier post mentioned, there are LOTS of non-political reasons to CCW at the mall... I'd have to say that angry boyfriends have comprised the vast majority of incidents here, with gang related harrassment and violence a close second. As for our "elite team of crack Mall Security", they consist mostly of retired Postal Workers and people who were either too short, or too fat to join an actual Law Enforcement organization. They don't even carry a baton, much less a FIREARM

Went to the mall last night in fact to visit Gymboree for our new 6 week old daughter :D toting my P40... WORLD of difference between Monday night and Friday night at the mall!!!

At Willowbrook mall....considered a relatively nice surburban mall, there have been no less than 7 attacks on mall employees in the parking lot near the Casa Ole restaurant entrance in the last year or so.

So, I'll be my bride's armed escort until I see the properly worded "Texas Law 30.06" sign that says I shouldn't carry.

Bass Pro Outdoor World? Well, they say to check em at the door. Is it properly worded?

Kel-Tec P32. Feather light (6 oz. unloaded) and thin, effective using the right ammo and shot placement, and almost invisible even during a lax pat down. Probably the greatest deep concealment gun ever. Just my opinion.

I guess I'm a "law-breaker"

I walk right inside with my P32. The same goes for church, schools, and practically any where else I can frequent that does not have physical searches or metal detectors.

Here in Georgia, malls are definatly not public gatherings, and their signs don't mean a thing. Even the one mall that actually does state not to carry, you can still carry. If you are "caught" carrying, you simply have to leave. It is not a criminal charge to be carrying somewhere that states not to. If they ask you to leave and you don't, then it is criminal tresspass...

That is one reason I really like Georgia, the firearms laws are pretty good...Especially since it is a "georgia firearms permit" and not limited to being a "Concealed carry permit"

Anybody else playing it safe, rather than sorry????
Yeah. Me. I'll avoid the mall.

P.S.> I can't even remember the last time I went there. Everything is way overpriced. Why should I get shafted AND blown up in the bargain?

Merchandise? There's nothing there that I can't get from a suburban retailer or though UPS.

Safety doesn't mean circumventing a federal, state, or local ordinance in order to answer a personal whim, forcing yourself into a position where you might need to defend yourself. It means doing everything necessary and legal to prevent that need. If you need milk and bread, sure: carry your CCW to the grocery store. But do you reeeeeally need Ralph Lauren's latest craze when there's a bomb threat in effect?

I carry a P7M8 in the mall, or anywhere else I need to.

I'm more concerned with the mundane locals than any recent "terrorist threats"
