Believe it or not, I was raised around guns, have used them in what you guys call "social work" in foreign lands which I wish to never re-visit, have always hunted, and always been a bit of a gun nut.

I have NEVER shot a .357 mag revolver until today. I do a wee bit of custom and repair work on guns on the side... actually mostly for my own projects or as free favours to friends/relatives. My step father made a deal where he would give me a pistol if I fixed his S&W 65 in .357. After several searches on the internet, and the take-down chart, I did the deed and got to test fire it.

All I can say is :D:D:eek::eek::):)

.357 Magnum

You want to do it really nice, go get a Colt Python with a 6 inch barrel. Even with full power loads there is nothing smoother. Love mine and will keep it forever.

Picked up a very lightly used 65-4 police trade in a few months ago. Very nice shooting revolver with either .38 special or .357 magnum, I can see why you liked the one you fired.

I would love to be buried with my S&W 4" PRE-LOCK 686 Distinguished Combat Revolver, but it would be too much of a damn shame to end that fine instrument's career so early.

I used to have an alarm set on my watch for 3:57pm everyday just so I could think of that sweet cartridge and smile!

I can't wait to start casting and reloading for my .357 Mangle 'em! The next set of dies and components I buy will be a showdown between the hard-hitting, well-balanced, all-American .357 and my socialist killer, the "Lord Of War", you know it and love it.... M1 Garand! :p

Yup, the .357 is a very cool round. I get my Ruger Security Six from my parents when I'm 21 and plan on using it as my CCW. It's somewhat of an eyesore, but is a rugged workhorse of a revolver and with a replacement in grips, it will be just like new again. I'm lucky to have an older gentleman as a friend in my hometown who is a reloader. He makes some really good hot .357 loads that are a real hoot to shoot.

Nothing like lighting off some rounds out of the Dan Wesson at the range on the weekends. Always brings a big smile to my face:D:D

I see a .357 in your future! Got to love them.

Not all .357s are alike.

What .357s were you shooting? Remington?

I usually get stressed in rush hour (Vegas) going to the range, and the first thing I shoot is a wheel full of the most powerful .357s I have with me, just to relieve tention.

Most of the rounds out of my .357's are .38 special. Nice rounds for punching paper. I do load .357 and shoot a few every now and then. It's nice to hear them bark a bit louder. It's more fun to find some macho type at the range doing the superiority thing with his bottom feeder and let him try a .357 with alternating .38 special and .357's without telling them that's the way it's loaded. :D

Watch out for Magtech 158gr. I'm not sure what they stuff in there, but it feels just as punchy as my Ruger-only over-max hunting loads. I can shoot almost any other 158gr .357s in my snub all day long, but one cylinder of those and I'm ready to call it a day.

They are fun in the Blackhawk, though.

I haven't shot any .357 rounds but I did shoot some .38 special rounds out of a Colt Python and I can say it was one of my most pleasureable shooting experiences to date!

The first time I shot one it was a ported 3" model I was a kid and it was at night. I was not given earplugs as I was just going to fire a few rounds and I remember it being a quite painful experience. The flash was HUGE. Haven't shot one since, not because I don't like them, I just havent had a chance to.

Almost every time I dump off a cylinder out of my GP-100 someone asks me "What is that gun?" I then reply it's a .357mag:D.

If they seem nice I will let them shoot a couple rounds. Hell the one guy immediately after shooting a couple rounds out of mine went and rented one.

It is definitely my favorite gun to shoot. I'm even considering purchasing a Ruger SP101 for concealed carry. I currently carry a Beretta 90Two 9mm.

I can't think of a gun with as big a difference in shooting either. A snubby .357 is like unleashing hell. A 6" barrel makes it like cruising a caddy. Cool guns.....

Great Caliber! and Congratulation! MORE POWER PLEASE:D It makes a great hunting round also and can be re-loaded with many bullet weights.

Another vote for the Dan Wesson 357 and for a real treat try the 357Max; a tad longer and a lot more fun at 200yds.

What Steviewonder1 said. Though they are now more than a bit pricey, they're still wonderful guns. Just find someone in your area who has a 'shooter' (as opposed to a NIB they'll never shoot) and beg them to let you try it. In 40 years of shooting, I have yet to find another pistol with as sweet a trigger.
