Lots higher velocity though,,,

At least from a rifle barrel it would be faster,,,

Isn't the formula for energy: E=M V-squared,,,
So an increase in velocity makes a lot more difference than mass.

It's been a long time since my physics class,,,
But I think that's the correct math.

All I know is that I've shot all of the large bore handguns at least once,,,
That 30-06 from the Contender was absolutely punishing to me,,,
It was actually worse than the 45-70 from a Contender.

But hey,,,
Whiff enough Hoppe's #9 (a la Eugene Tackleberry)
And nothing would hurt very badly.

...How about .308 S&W???

....its like a baby -06.

...NOt too fond of that caliber... tho I have plenty of bullets for it.

Just break down and buy a BFR,,,

You know ya want one,,,
And we're just the people to talk you into doing it. :D

.45/70, .480 Ruger/.475 Linebaugh, .450 Marlin, .500 S&W, .50AE, .444 Marlin, .30/30 Winchester, .45 Long Colt/.410 (not for sale in CA), and the new .460 S&W Magnum - as well as .454 Casull

There is that one lone traditional rifle cartridge,,,
The venerable 30-30.

I'll bet that Magnum Wheel Gun is correct,,,
They probably chose that cartridge to fit the cylinder length.

Whip out that Master Card,,,

Ya know Aaron... the problem with that is...

.. BFR looks like a ole ruger six shooter on steroids..

I dont like the way that it looks...

I would much rather that S&W would just make one:D

Cant do 30/30... that makes me think of some ole farmer...with the gun rammed down the inside of the rear fender on a H or M farmall tractor...just in case you see a deer while pickin corn(and he would hit it too...runnin, jumpin, dont matter...tractor in high gear...would still hit it)

IM gonna check into filing suit against S&W for what they have done to me...

im scared for life:rolleyes:

I can't argue with you there,,,
I've always called it the B UGLY F R

I see no help for you other than a 12 step program of some kind,,,

Hello, I'm DiscoRacing and I'm a Smith & Wesson junkie.

I have nothing else for ya my friend,,,

IIRC,the BFR was made in .450 Marlin.The 30-06,or any bottleneck,has troubles with a revolver.
I have an MOA single shot in .260 Rem.Recoil is not bad.It jumps some, but does not sting.I shoot 120 gr Ballistic tips approx 2600.
When I ordered my MOA,the gentleman who creates them was hunting wth one chambered .350 Rem mag necked down to .338.Might be one to put a muzzle brake on.

I fired a total of 9 .375 Winchester's out of my early 90's vintage Contender. I fired my Buddy's Contender in .35 Remington at about the same time, and that Ain't no fun either!

Just like new, that Barrell has not been fired since. .410's, .44 Mags, are about tops for me, as far as handgun recoil!.

Man the .30-06 would loose so much velocity in a handgun length barrel and the unburnt gasses would make for one serious muzzle flash. Are we just talking for fun? Because I don't think it would make a lot of sense from a ballistics standpoint. You would be seriously handicapping the cartridges performance. lol I'm not saying you shouldn't do it because it would be pretty awesome to see that baby touched off. :D

I have a BFR in 45/70. They are good shooting guns but ammo prices stop me from shooting it a lot.

a 30-06 BFR would be a pretty cool gun. They do make them in custom calibers so may not hurt to ask.

Have you seen that Austrian revolver chambered in 600 Nitro Express? They also make a "cheap ammo" version that fires 458 Win Mag. I'll try to find the website.

Not good for everyday carry at over 13 lbs.

Magnum Wheel Man - I was out at the local Gander Mtn earlier today and - no (*@& - there was a 45/70 revolver sitting in the display case. I'm not much of a revolver guy so I don't recall of the top of my head what brand/model it was, just remember thinking "what the.... WHY?"

Point being - someone, somewhere, has developed that handgun. :D
