Tore the deck off my house and saved as much of the lumber as I could. Also had a huge pile of old treated 2x4's laying out back. So, figure this will be a nice little place to get away from the lady and make things that go bang. Have an old heating/cooling unit from a hotel room that should be plenty to manage the temp. WIP. Will update.

IT looks like it's built strong, I'll say that for it. It should handle the snow loads.

Keep us updated and send more photos as the project develops.

Will do. I got the floor dug out tonight. I'd like to sheet the roof tomorrow. We'll see. I still gotta get shingles. Doh :banghead:

I did the same for mine. I insulated the gloors, walls, and ceiling to be able to maintain climate. 12 plugs on 6 breakers in a 10X12 to keep from overloading. I used a normal 8,000 btu window hmr for cooling in the summer and an oil filled radiator style for winter heating. It is both my fishing and hunting/reloading room.
Oh yeah, to seal any cracks I used spray foam which after drying can be cut to install trim if wanted. I didn't want though;)

Yeah I'll insulate it and seal it up tight. That air unit is a big 220v heater/ac unit with a thermostat. It was in a big hotel room, so that thing should be no problem. I made it 8'x12' to accomodate the lumber I had. I was gonna buy trusses until I saw how much they had gone up. Decided to just make my own lol. They would definitely hold a lot of snow.... if we ever got any.

Edit: Sprayfoam: That stuff is HIGHLY flammable. I was using that stuff under the kitchen sink to try and keep mice from getting in. The woman was kneeled down talking to me... fumes built up.... pilot light on stove!!!!!! Kawooossshhhh!!!!!! Flames shooting out of drawers! Oh my!!!! Womans arm hair.... gone!!!! She was not happy. Burnt her skin to a bright red hue.... Lol Be careful.

I second the "built strong" thought. What a tank of a structure. Great idea using the hotel HVAC. Really an ideal application for it.

Poured floor would be nice, but doing this on the cheap.

Wood floor and good drainage. I have block I could use. Maybe half block, half wood. Ehh... Burn that bridge when I get there.

Hurricane raftors lol. I used what I had on hand. Reporposed :)

Hey no problem if you don't have those hurricane rafter hangers available. Just pound in more 16s to compensate._:D _One thing I will say about a gravel floor mrawesome. The benefit of having one. You won't have to worry about a little bit of spilled powder every now and then. _:rolleyes:

By the looks of the shed back there, you need an extra 24 bundles of shingles, while you're at the hardware store :D

Don't forget the wife-is-annoyed-you've-been-outside-too-long-hatch.

Really, this looks like a great idea & cool on salvaging the deck.. makes me want to tear my gazebo down...
