Well, I'm about 1.5 hours from Montreal,in Vt though,and a lot of Canadians,who are hand gun shooters cross the border to "Get their guns from a friend in Vt and go to the same range I do to fire it " it's insane !!!!
But they are always welcome and of course are eager to talk about firearms with anyone that will ....
Taxes are unreal,when we go up to Motreal or around that area there are two sales tax (can't remember what they are called) but the both total app.15% of sales .....so for every 100.00 I spend add another 15.00 in tax ....now if I spend over $200.00 on something,I get the lesser of the tax rates back at the duty free shop( maybe 6 or 7%.....another P.I.T.A.
Now since 9-11 anything I order (Don't forget NAFTA)"North American Free Trade Agreement" I pay for customs ! They call me up and ask what I ordered and then charge me for my answer ....can't afford to buy from Canada anylonger ,so now I buy from the states .....It sucks because for me Canada is closer Than Mass,Conn ,or what have you ......My 2 cents Bigbird34

Hmm, thought the valmet wasn't on there...
All you fine American citizens should read this list. 20 some odd years ago in Canada, most of those guns (except for full auto) were perfectly legal. You could hunt with them, shoot them or do what you want with them. Now we have a new generation of gun owners that can hardly believe there was a time in Canada when you could hunt with a AR-15 or FN. You could even hunt with handguns in Canada at one time. Slowly the left leaning Liberal governments picked away at what was legal until we have this list. A lot of the guns on that list are illegal because some dweeb in Ottawa thought they were scary looking. Unfortunately, that's not a joke. At least you guys have the 2nd Amendment. Hang on to it.
The Valmet HUNTER and HUNTER M78 are exempted, but most other Valmets are prohibited, and just why gives you an insight into exactly how and why they came up with this list; the reason those particular rifles are exempt was because shortly before the LIEberals passed this BS into law, they had handed out several truckloads of those rifles (free of charge, mind you) to various northern aboriginal communities, as bear defence and hunting rifles. The Hunter and Hunter M78 are just as much "variants" of the AK as any of the others are, but the LIEberals knew that if they went back to the aboriginals and said "Um..., you remember those rifles we gave you a while back? Well, we've decided that Canadians are too stupid and dangerous to be trusted with them, so we'd like you to give them back, pretty please with sugar on top", the answer they'd get would start with "F" and end with "U". They also knew that that would end up in the papers in short order, and they'd look like fools for prohibiting something that they had just been handing out free of charge. So, they decided to try to sweep it under the rug and hope no-one noticed. In short, just like we all knew it was, C-68 was purely about giving the IMPRESSION that the LIEberals were doing something about violent crime.
