they used to have it up to 24" and it started losing velocity after 18. att least when I saw it about a year ago. ill check again, maybe it was 38spl

here is 16"
16" 1790 2119 2004 1946 2051 1739 2044 1741
17" 1686 2067 1947 1907 2026 1689 2009 1712
18" 1718 2113 1941 1936 2072 1719 2017 1721

so as you can see the velocities start to fall off after 16" all except the 125gr(which 17" is optimal) which is marginal. at 24" it loses even more. no matter what load you are looking at, it loses velocity after 16 except which starts losing at 17"

here is real world guns( I know other factors can play, but it still shows the trend) all loads show about 200 more fps from the shorter barrel

Winchester
94AE
16" barrel 1744 2105 1913 1935 2005 1717 2057 1735
Stoeger
buntline
18" barrel 1562 1848 1599 1733 1738 1459 1774 1415

pistol powders just don't burn long enough to keep creating pressure for that long of a barrel

thanks guys, seems like i'll go with 20in stainless round

octagonal is pretty but I want a handy little rifle and it does look good stainless to

the real fun begins when I get it suppressed:D

you will be amazed at how quiet they are shooting cast lead 38spl plinkers w/o suppression. quieter than any rimfire I have ever used. with a suppressor, it would be a truly silenced firearm. if you plan for suppressor, your going to ant the longest barrel possible, because your going to have to chop the mag tube down for threading an adaptor. but probably only a couple inches.

I have the Rossi 38/357 lever and love it. Round barrel. They had the oct but I went with the SST round.

I have several oct's but as said, mostly nostalgia.

You don't like my upgrades? My lever action can beat up your ar,,,,

Jk ......I find that thing to as ridiculous as you do. I don't even think I would wannt to put a silencer on mine. They are just to prettY. BUT, I would look at it differently if I lived in a state which hindered my options of "high-powered, military style assault weapons". It looks like a great NY rifle
