Don't know, the name of the place is Vance's Shooters Supply and their number is 614-471-7353. I guess it couldn't hurt to call and give it a shot. They will recieve guns bought online and do the transfer, so they might ship to your FFL. (I hope I'm not breaking forum rules by posting the name and phone number)

Just to put in my 2 cents worth, I bought a Springfield "loaded" for a shade over $600 and for my money, a colt cant touch it for out of the box accuracy and reliability. Cant remember the last time it failed to function with whatever I fed it, and it consistantly groups in the 3 to 43 inch range which for me is excellent.

Looking back at this reply it looks more like 10 cents worth, sorry

With permission from my good friend DSK I will post this pic showing the external differences between a 1911 and an a1.

My choice would be a Spriger loaded model. you pick and choose the one that suits you best.

wow! thanks that spells it out the differences pretty clearly.

that answered a lot of qestions.

so more or less, unless i am looking at a pre 1920's 1911, most all (if not all) 1911 on the market today are 1911-A1s?
