IMHO, Please don't do anything to change your new M1911A1! The whole idea is to have a real (as close to real as possible) pistol like millions of warriors have carried and depended on. If the bite bothers you, put a Band-Aid on the web of your hand before you start shooting. If you plan to shoot a couple of hours, plan on changing the Band-Aid to maintain the protection you want. If the recoil is a problem, buy a batting glove and wear it on your gun hand. The glove will protect you from the bite and will help relieve the numbing effect of the recoil.
