I think the best way is to just keep stopping by your favorite gun stores and hoping one shows up.

This is what happened to me in '06 when SA GI .45s were scarce.
I stopped by a large gun store on my way home. Among the many guns, there was a SA GI .45 in the display case. I asked to see it and then purchased it.
The clerk then pulled out a list from his pocket that had about a dozen names on it. Names of people he was supposed to call if a SA GI .45 showed up. The gun had been in the display case for less than 30 minutes and he did not know it had arrived and had been placed there by another clerk.
I got lucky. I have yet to see another one there again.

Right now, that 1911 is sitting next to me. It is not for sale at any price.
