Actually I've seen 'em.

Gas ports pitted on a SKS so bad from corrosive ammo they were almost the size of a pot (well if you looked under a magnifying glass it did.)

Who ever shot that gun never cleaned it and it rusted it till it was worthless, and it was one of those 'paratrooper' SKS rifles. I didn't have the heart to look into the barrel.

Gun is turned sideways, that is on the top of the barrel lined up with the sights/gas system.

Those are the threads / muzzle front end, looking into the barrel. It had a wide muzzle cap .

where the light is coming in inside the barrel. I assume he had his gas system on when he first saw it, so it looked like a pit not a hole. I get it now.....if I didn't know it had a gas port, I could see thinking that was a pit inside if I was looking down the barrel

Sorry, just found it, a short AK47. I'd say that the gas port is normal, no worries.

The big outter circle is the thread cap to protect them for add on items.

The middle is the barrel.

The tiny little saturn in the barrel is the gas port.
