German date code info source.

I've found the Spanish date code source in "Spanish Handguns" to be a great reference. Does anyone here know of a date code source for German and Italian guns? I looked in the internet and see that people answer questions about the age of German weapons from a two letter code but so far haven't found the code list. Thanks,

That's how HK marks their guns, I'm not sure if all German manufacturers use the same coding system.

That's straight from the HKPRO website, I suspect they're right.

H&K uses the Ulm proof house -- I=8.

SIG uses the Kiel proof house -- J=8.

My 1972-3 Mauser P08 has a serial number only, no date on test target either. I sent an email to an expert on these and hope to get the date based on the serial number.

If you look at the imprint on old 8x57 IS cartridges, the I looks like a J. There are small difference in the printed letters between the American and the German way.

HammerBite is correct.

H&K and Walther use the Beschussamt (proofhouse) in Ulm.

The "J" is not used in the date codes from this proofhouse
