I have seen White phosphorous 50 caliber marking rounds used with the 106 recoilless strike steel. Although it was a marking round, it certainly did not make such a mark against steel. Even white phosphorous grenades would not of caused such damage.

I still believe it was caused by molten steel against steel.

Evey thing can be broken.

Just The Colt 1911 is HARD to break.

90+ Years and Soldiers still want the big bullet.

I shot a lot of WP 2.75" rockets as a FAC in Vietnam and I don't think that's WP damage...shrapnel up close will dimple steel that way though. Rod
