Because there are already several dozen calibers available that will do the job.

That never stopped the development of another caliber before. I can name numerous recent additions that offer no realistic advantages.

Just a thought here, but I would think a round such as the new Marlin 308 express in a 25 or 27 caliber would be a good choice in a lever gun with the new hornady bullets.
It does seem the 30 caliber is the all Amreican round since the 30-40 krag.
25-08 might be a good to deer sized game bullet for lever actions.
