Concealed means concealed

So what does concealed mean? If you carry a pistol in your jacket pocket and a trained observer can note one side hangs lower than the other does that count as concealed? If you are wearing tacti-cool pants and a shirt with a fanny pack does that mean concealed (because we all know whats in that fanny pack right?). What about printing?

So when we step down the path of "concealed means concealed" we ignore the fact that we have virtually all, to some degree or another, been in a position where the fact that we were armed would have been exposed to a careful observer.

Concealed means concealed is a really easy statement to make as long as we never have to define what concealed actually means.

And remember that "Concealed" doesn't mean what you think it should mean; it means what the local ordinances say it means.

Not really my business, but in my experience, off duty LEO seem to care less about actual concealment. Among my brothers, we always discretely call each other out, ("Hey, Gutenberg..." (because you're "printing") ;-)

I went to college in Colorado where campus carry is allowed. Occasionally I would wear a shirt that said "I am concealed carrying" just because it was Boulder and I wanted to make people mad.

I was also a 32 year old freshman, kind of an atypical student.

I live in Boulder(since 1993, went to CU..1968-1972..came back 20 years later post USN) and I think you would be surprised at how many people own firearms w/i not only the county limits but the city limits. Anecdotal only but my CCW class of 30 in Longmont, about 18 were from Boulder County. PLUS open carry in Boulder City? Completely legal..Open Carry in Denver, absolutely illegal..

BTW-My CCWP took about 7 weeks..because, when I asked the lady who did them..cuz they are really busy..

We, in Arkansas, lived for years with the worry of accidental handgun exposure and what the over zealous cops and prosecutors might do should we accidentally let our handgun be seen. Thankfully we now have, by case law, open constitutional carry. It's a relief. I feel sorry for those of you who still worry about printing.

Printing and being seen are two different things. With the amount of cell phones worn in belt holders, i dont worry at all about a little buldge on my waistline under a shirt or sweater.

Now, if the shirt rides up so the grip becomes visible, thats another story

You're absolutely correct. Here in Arkieville we only had to worry about accidental exposure, but thankfully we don't have to worry about that anymore.

However there are still those unfortunate soles that have to worry about printing and I had hoped I'd made that clear.

There is also the possibility that they guy was an off-duty police officer. One can never be sure.
As I was reading the OP's post for the first time, this is the first thing that popped into my head... he may be an off duty cop. Anyway... one thing I would NEVER do is assume he wanted my "help" or "correction" or anything of that nature. The man is carrying a gun... it's not my concern whether he is legal, whether he cares his conceal is not really concealed... doesn't matter... not my business.
My conceal is usually an LCP (380) in a nylon square in my rear left pants pocket. You would be hard pressed to discern it was a weapon even if I was bent over and you were standing right behind me. Looks almost identical to a wallet, and the little LCP is deep enough in that square that unless you were standing DIRECTLY behind me looking strait down where you MAY see the top of the gun, you couldn't see I was carrying. Yes, not quite as easily accessible as many other ways to carry, definitely not a "quick draw", but I've gotten to where I can reach behind me with my right hand, and know exactly where to place my fingers to be able to pull it out easy enough if I had to. Of course, an LCP with 6 rounds in 380 ain't no 9mm Glock with 13 or 17 rounds.

Carmady, Say what?
I have carried a weapon concealed for forty years as a police officer and retired PO, I carry responsibly and have not had anyone ever approach me and advise concern regarding the pistol. A proper holster and appropriate clothing will make observations and concern by the public non existent. I will be in Texas for the next two months where everyone, male and female has a handgun print somewhere on their person.

I was there from 2012-2015 in an enlisted commissioning program, meaning I taught a lot of Midshipmen how to shoot. The neat thing about Boulder that people don't realize is that when you take away CU, its a bunch of older wealthy conservatives that pretend to be liberal that run the city. Legalized weed in CO? Not in Boulder County.

My Broomfield County CCW took about that long too, but the guy who processed it told me it was because the state tried to get every bit of the 90 days out of the maximum time allowed for processing as they could. Once I get off this rock in the middle of the Pacific I may try to head back that way; there are enough Marine billets between Buckley, recruiting out of Denver and the CU NROTC unit that there is at least a slight chance.

There were a handful of professors that I routinely tried to antagonize due to their ignorance and the way they utilized their platform to spread it, hence the "I am carrying"shirt and a Christmas sweater that was nothing but firearms. My adviser had a "no concealed weapons allowed" sign and an upside down American flag on his wall. He was not thrilled when I asked where I should leave my pistol.....

Not sure about that and there are 17 marijuana stores in Boulder county and 14 of those in Boulder City Limits.

Not a fan of some of the silly stuff the Boulder City Council comes up with(Boulder is a nuclear free zone..copy to China, Russia and NK)

NESEP? I graduated from CU, NROTC in 1972..thence to Flight School..thanks for your service.
For 136 years, the University of Colorado banned anyone but law enforcement officers from carrying a firearm on campus. That changed in March 2012, when the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that a 2003 law expanding concealed gun carry rights in the state overrode the university’s Board of Regents.

The impassioned debate at the time of that ruling has long since subsided, even at the flagship campus in Boulder, a liberal outpost in the eastern foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

“The concealed carry issue is not much on the radar screen these days,” said Bruce Benson, president of the University of Colorado system, which includes the Boulder campus and three others.

How is it that every third thread on TFL lately turns to Colorado politics!?
I think because of the blue-ish tint of the state coupled with a LOT of BS and misinformation, most with regards to gun ownership, use, CCW, EDC, etc. In fact, buying, using and carrying a handgun in CO is quite easy and as has been mentioned...OpenCarry is legal in Boulder.....a lot of this is 3rd, 4th, 5th hand, some blog or some other internet crappola that comes from people who have never been here.

How about CCW on Univ of Alabama campus? LSU(Louisiana)?..how about some other 'conservative states?
These states allow the concealed carry of guns on college campuses.
Arkansas.
Colorado.
Georgia.
Idaho.
Kansas.
Minnesota.
Mississippi.
Oregon.

If you bend over to tie your shoe, or play with your kids, will it show? Will it matter to you?

I don't live in a PC People's State, so I don't care if it shows.

I suspected as much. And I still personally view Colorado as almost purple. It’s politics have shifted over the years but I don’t perceive the state as a whole to be the socialist bastion it’s portrayed to be. I’ve never been there admittedly, but I have several old friends from the state who are quite conservative. They don’t lament Colorado politics too much, other than me joking with them about toking up... and then it’s just more of a roll of the eyes than a true lamentation. Admittedly, I don’t talk politics with friends much. Much more meaningful conversations to be had when I get to speak to old friends.
