FWIW I had an ElPaso Weaver on my hunting rifle for decades. It got dropped in a rock. The tube took a dent. I took one shot at a mark on a tree a reasonable distance away. Sight was good to go.

A little tip about tracking. Ring alignment matters. I don't hesitate to lap rings.

The tube gets cut to attach the turrets. If the rings are not aligned, the tube will flex when all the screws get tightened. Likely the flex will occur around the turrets.
We pay good money for precision. Scopes are made to tight tolerances.

Then we might flex the tube .020 . Can we expect the X-Y to track a good box?

Maybe not.

Once I started using a surface plate, height gauge, dial indicator remachining scope blocks as necessary so everything was in line to about .001 ,then I'd do a light lapping,a miraculous thing happened! I didn't have to waste 40 rounds chasing a zero around the target.

All the scope manufacturers started making better W+E adjustments! Imagine that!
