Brass cleaner

I'm waaaay old school. I use walnut only for cleaning and do not add anything to it. It lasts a long time.

For polishing, I use corn cob with a touch of Frankford Arsenal polish. As others have said. Add polish to media and let it run a while before adding brass.

What is the issue with adding in the polish while it's running with the brass in it? I have just added a squirt after it has been running for an hour or two and it seemed to work fine. Hoping I am not missing something.
