It was just meant to be illustrative of the sad descision the DOD made.

I'll bet someone at DOD will see this, smack themselves on the forehead and say, "WOW...We need to correct this decision. Thank goodness for the Internet!"

Hey I hadn't thought of that Cajun you just might be right!

Yep, the 1911A1 was the best U.S. issued handgun without a doubt.

It's really too bad that Glock did not compete in the most recent trials.

Maybe they will even take easyG's advice and try out that Glock 17.

The M11 (Sig 228) should be on the poll as well.

I wasn't sure if it would be classified as standard issue when I made up the list.

Sorry for the oversight if it is.

Nice pistol.

I would have voted for the M1909, the Colt M1917 and/or S&W M1917 (all of which were standard issue military handguns and left off your poll)--and yes, the M11 (P228) is a standard issue military handgun.

The M9 could be compared to worse than a 911, that's for certain. I'd take that just b/c of it's capacity clip and the fact is a reliable gun. If I was actually in war, I'd rather not have to reload as frequently if it was down to me and the handgun.
