You said you would prefer a pump gun, and while i don't have any experience with them, Taurus makes one called the Thunderbolt, and i think they're priced somewhat near the Marlins.
Thanks for the suggestions, some of those guns I was totally unaware of, and comments. Marlin is what I think I'll go with or maybe the Winchester based on condition and price of what I find out there.

IMO, chunky and inordinately heavy. Rossi, Marlin or Win are the way to go--or best of all Browning 92 if you can find one without having to leverage your house.
If you can find a Timber Wolf at a decent price, you won't be sorry. They are very accurate and built strong. I've shot over 1000 rounds through mine with no problems. Built like you would expect from IMI
my experience with henry has been great. my next rifle is gonna be a big boy 44 mag. i guess im loyal like that. i dont matter, pistol caliber carbines are really cool.
