ar barrel torque

guncrank,

Yes, see, that's the way I read the instructions from the manual too. That is why I pointed out the true torque difference when using an extension, and it put me to question which way did they actually mean it? Generally, manufacturers will give the spec for a nut, etc, in foot or inch pounds, and if you have to use an extension, they tell you to calculate for it. However, I am like you, as it seems to me that the manual says to use the extension on the wrench, set at 30 Ft. Lb. That's why I wanted to point out the difference between the two methods.

What they taught us in the 1970s for the M16A1 was, tighten to 35-40 ft/lbs torque (with the tools they gave us), and then (using a breaker bar, not the torque wrench) tighten until the barrel nut allowed the gas tube to enter the upper receiver, and no more.

And we didn't oil or grease the threads.

Don't know if that's still the rule or not, but that's how we did it then.

44 AMP,

That what it works out to. Thanks.

The 35 lbft is not that critical I don't think, it will vary, but if 80 lbft is the stated max, that one is.
