375 Win

Nice line-up of leverguns, damienph. Looks like the Winchesters are outnumbered. I'd be tempted to even the score; maybe add a model 55 or a WWII vintage 94..... So, Buffalo Bore offers a heavy 38-55 loading that they say,
This heavy 38-55 ammunition is for use in any firearm chambered in 38-55 or 375 Winchester that is in normal working condition and is designed to be used with smokeless powder./QUOTE] Is that perhaps loaded on 375 length cases?

Well I just came from a garage sale and found a cartage to add to my collection of cartages. It's a 38-55 Win. The grandfather of the 375 Win. Looks like a extra long rimed 357 Mag. I think I will pick up the rest of the cartages tomorrow. The history I found clamed the 38-55 was first started back in the 1870s and was a fine target cartage then became popular for Lever guns such as Mod.94 and Marlin's... Good for Deer and Bear. The 375 is suppose to be 1mm. longer than the 38-55.
That's cool
Nice collection of Levers.

Have 3 375's, 2 marlins and a Win. Using handloads, the 375 is a nice step up from a 30-30 in the same barrel length. The brass for the 375 is substantially thicker than the 30-30, and specifically designed for a noticeable increase in pressure. It pretty well matches the 30-30 `150 grain velocity, with a Sierra 200 grainer using 1680.

The one 375 Marlin owned is fairly well used, and considering have it cut down to 16 or 18 inches. Am doubtful it would lose much velocity with the heavier bullets.

375 Win. perfect Ohio deer gun

we have new 1st year, rifle deer season in Ohio. I have owned both wins & Marlins in this cal. I loaded them with 230 FP win bullet- 32.5 gr/ IMR 4198.
Guns shot good, never scoped, but had recieiver Lyman 66 on Marlin. I don't own one now, have to use Marlin 1895 , 45/70 this year. Next year I will have
a single shot 26" barrel made up and scoped. I plan to shoot Speer 235 gr
Spitzer, have to work up powder load, should flatted out trajectory.

45/70 deer rifle?

I didn't mean to imply 45/70 won't kill a deer! It's overkill. I think 26" barl.
375 win with 235gr spitzer out of strong action is the best long range rig you could put together for Ohio rifle season. Will have to work up powder load.
I'm going to look into a Rem 788 in 30/30 for conversion.
