    10 22 with X-22 Backpacker stock

Hello, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Happy Holidays. I have a Ruger 10 22 with, as the subject line says, a Magpul X-22 Backpacker stock. If you're at all familiar with them, you know there is a storage compartment in the hand grip. (There's one in the stock, too, but it's made to hold...

    Movie holsters

OK, I know it's only movies. But in Westerns I keep seeing long-barreled revolvers in holsters that allow an inch or so of barrel to stick out of the bottom of the holster. Does anyone know of a good reason for carrying like that?

    Lasers on handguns

I did a search and didn't find anything recent specifically about laser sights on handguns. I'm sure if I missed something somebody will tell me I'm "elderly" and near-sighted and getting the sights lined up on target quickly has become more difficult. I'm a convert to lasers. I have CT...

    Shout out for CZ 83

I went to the range yesterday. The main reason I went was to shoot my .327 revolvers, an LRCx and a Single Seven. But I put the CZ 83, .32 acp in the bag because I hadn't shot it for a while. I went through my ammo for the revolvers, and the results were good. I shot a mix of aimed and point...

    Holster for LCRX .327

I am trying to find an IWB holster for my LCRX .327. Holsters made for J-frame Smiths do not work. My gun has Crimson Trace grips, which adds that slight bump for the laser housing. The trigger guard is large on all the LCRs. And, I think, the cylinder on a .327 is slightly longer than...

Parts for Double Action 3rd Model

About six months ago I posted here about a Smith and Wesson 3rd Model, a .38 S&W, DA/SA top-break made in 1894-1895. I finally took the gun to a gunsmith and he says it needs a new sear. [It's part #27 - the "rear" sear, on the schematic.] He and I both searched the 'net for the part...

    .44 special help

Howdy. I have a Ruger Blackhawk New Model in .44 spl. It has the "New XR3" grip frame. It was fun to shoot when I got it but arthritis in my gun hand blah blah blah. So I need to either get rid of it or find a way to tame it down some. Here are my questions: Has anyone found an aftermarket...

Shots Fired! Ruger takes on Heritage... discuss!

New Ruger? Over on another forum one of the members noticed that Ruger has copyrighted the name Wrangler. Yes, that name is already in use, but Wrangler jeans and Jeep Wrangler have gotten along fine for a long time. Has anyone heard of this? It will be fun to guess what they're up to, but...

    Smith and Wesson 4th Model

The first pic shows the side of the gun with the putty-covered holes. The second shows the grips once I got them off. The putty covered screw heads, and the screws went all the way into the left side panel. Had to remove those screws before I could pry the grips off.

    Smith and Wesson 4th Model

Looking for some information on a Smith and Wesson 4th Model .32 I just bought. The excellent laytonj1 searched the serial number for me and it seems safe to say it was made between 1907 and 1909. Mine is blued and has wood grips that I'm sure are custom made or modified. I will have my...

    Snap cap vs dummy round

I'm going to guess that most of you knew this already, but for the few who weren't aware - I mail-ordered a package that was labeled by the manufacturer, as "Action Proving Dummy Rounds/Snap Caps." I didn't see a difference between dummy round and snap cap. When they arrived I noticed a...

    Indoor range in Austin

Howdy. My adult daughter and I are going shooting in Austin in a couple of weeks. She has shot before (and was good at it) but hasn't handled any guns in a long time. So, looking for recommendations for a good indoor range for handguns in Austin, TX. I have checked the internet and read...

    Beretta Neos

A friend is thinking about buying a Beretta Neos .22 LR. I've tried a search here but don't see much comment about them. Anyone have solid info I can pass along? Thanks.

    Target dimensions

I've done a google search and tried searching this site but can't find specifics. What are the dimensions of the FBI QIT-99 target? I would like to be able to draw my own. Thanks.

    Help me spend some money

I was born in 1950. The idea has popped into my brain that it would be neat to own a handgun made in 1950. I'm thinking about Smith and Wesson. I know how to look up a serial number and find the year of manufacture, but how do I shop for a gun made in a specific year? I don't want to break...

    CCW with a single action

OK, I know all the reasons to NOT use a single action revolver as your concealed carry. So please don't go there. I'd like to hear success stories about ccw with a single action. How do you carry, what kind of holster, where did you get the holster, how do you manage reloads? Etc. I know...

    Ruger ejector rod

Howdy. As I've posted before, I have a new Ruger Single Seven bird's head with a 3 3/4 inch barrel. I am 93% certain that I have read about an ejector rod for short barreled SA's that has something like a spiral action. I think it includes the housing and allows for a longer ejector. Does...

    Ammo issue

I was shooting my new Ruger Single Seven today for the first time. I went through 14 rounds of .327, then switched to .32 H&R. Loaded and shot one cylinder-full, and as I was reloading the cylinder locked up - wouldn't turn and I couldn't get the cylinder pin out. Had to get the gunsmith...

    barrel length

Why do gun-makers make handguns, especially revolvers, in such odd barrel lengths? There has to be a good reason for making barrels 1 7/8 inches instead of 2 inches. Or 3 1/16 inches instead of 3, or 4 5/8 instead of 4 1/2. Etc. I tried converting the lengths to millimeters, and they come...

Scope or not on a Browning SA-22?

Friend of mine inherited a Browning SA-22. From what I can tell, it was made in 1961. It was for sure made in Belgium. It's in beautiful condition. He agrees that he ought to shoot it some (and allow me to shoot it, too) but after that he thinks he might put it away in a vacuum sealed case...
