Optics for a Rem 700 in 308 - Accupoint vs NXS vs VX6

I traded for a Remington 700 SPS and immediately hated the Hogue stock. It felt like the rifle was covered in a condom. I'm making a platform specifically a pig rig that probably will rarely if ever see anything over 200 yards ... 80-140 yards primarily. I'm wanting something longer than a 3-9...

    Colt Trooper ejector rod

The ejector rod keeps backing out. I can put a dab of loctite on it, but how do I torque it down some? All I've done so far is just as tight as I can by hand. Its not enough.

Cleaning a Beretta A391 Extrema - mystery O-ring fell out

Doing a thorough strip and clean of an A391 Extrema. When I pulled the bolt out and disassembled, a mystery O-ring (split, BTW) fell out onto the pad. The O-ring is very small ... maybe 1/4" in diameter ... and appears to fit around the firing pin inside the bolt according to the only exploded...

Browning A5 Light or Beretta 391 Extrema

I love my Browning. I like the mechanical recoil "feel". The gun is as solid a performer as I have ever owned. I picked up a Beretta 391 Extrema. Smooth and silk shooter. I've only run a few hundred rounds through it, but it seems to be every bit as reliable a shooter as the Browning ... only...

    Cash price vs trade value

Is this a head scratcher for any one else? Why would there be a difference and be dumb enough to advertise it? When I see a gun I'm interested in and am considering a trade offer and see a 10-15% increase in "trade value", the value of my trade must be worth that inflation as well. So what's...

Revolver vs Semi-auto - has the market softened?

I buy and sell ... I buy a gun that peaks my interest and if/when I get bored with it, I sell it and move onto something else. Occasionally I find a "keeper", but for the most part, I like shooting a variety. I don't seem to have a problem selling a semi. Sold a 92FS last week without hardly...

Sig 1911 Barrel bushing is extremely tight

I have 1/2 dozen 1911s now and have had another 1/2 dozen. The Sig STX I recently picked up has an extremely tight barrel bushing. I don't mean snug ... I mean 'Holy cow' that's stupid tight. No other Sig, Smith, SA, or Colt I've owned or now own has even approached this. I've inspected the...

A day at the range ... couple hours, actually.

I had a rare day off yesterday so I asked the wife if she wanted to go to the local range and do some shooting. And of course she did ... "Whatcha wanna shoot?" "The ARs" So I loaded up a couple cases and range bag full of ammo and off we went. Now, Uncle George's is a great gun range. While...

How 'bout some SIG love ...

Snagged this little guy today. Conceals well ... I have it's bigger brother ... And how it sizes up against the Shield ... I've shot the 239, Shield and XDs and Friday a friend had his 938 at the range and I ran 3 mags through it. I was sold. The 239 was just too small for my...

Two new gun purchases - disappointment!

I sold a trailer I no longer needed and decided to parlay that into a couple gun purchases. My LGS was putting together a "group buy" on Thompson 1927A1 and was able to get in on it. Second, I found a Smith Pro-Series 1911 in 9mm on clearance at a chain store. Stoked and went to the range...

    4506 failure

In another thread I posted about finding a really nice 4506 http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=499338 I took it to the range Friday and after about 5 or 6 rounds of 200g +P the extractor wouldn't catch the empty casing and pull it out of the breach. It wasn't stuck ... drop the...

    M&P9 v M&P9 Pro

Who here has shot both, unimpressed with the 9 but wowed by the 9 Pro? IMHO ... the Pro has an awesome trigger, seems better balanced and better sights. I can definitely stay on target better and easier than with a XDm9 Comp. The 9 was just sorta plain when pitted against similar platforms...

    4506 - School me

Impulse buy ... SW 4506 ... it was cheap. Quick search tells me its a nice shooter. Anyone have any first-hand experience?

    BAR A5 12 Light

I decided to rent a table at a small mom & pop local gun show. About 80 tables ... Before the show began, I was walking around chatting with several of the other vendors and one had a Browning Auto-5 12-Light. It was the Japanese version, but was in amazing condition. I see them on gunbroker...

    Deal or no deal?

An aquaintance has a NIB M1A Standard and as it came from the factory. He ordered it, paid for it and a couple weeks later lost his job. So now he's looking for $1200. Deal or no? If it were a friend, I'd buy it and sell it back to him once he got on his feet. But I'm thinking about flipping it.

Grips - round butt v square butt

Let me make sure I understand ... On a round butt N frame smith, a square butt set of grips will work, correct? I understand why a round butt set of grips won't work on a square butt revolver. Simple physics ... But I'm seeing a lot of grips advertised as square/round compatible and it...

How much gets me on a watch list?

At the range today and was chatting with fellow shooters. The subject of stockpiling ammo came up and he made a comment about being on a "watch list" due to the ammount of ammo and powder he buys at one time. On the way home I got to thinking about that. I made a cursory search and saw a lot...

Glen Rose, Texas gun show this weekend

http://www.gunshowstoday.com/gun-show/brazos-valley-gun-show/ A new on the calendar. Probably gonna be small, but I'm going to stop by and see what they have to offer. Nothing like a gun show and BBQ sandwich from Hammond's.

    sight adjustment tool

Best I can tell, there are two types/methodologies. First is chucking up a slide and using a drift, tapping the sight, moving it a random amount. Second is a tool that clamps on the slide and then using a threaded arbor, engage the sight and control movement by thread pitch. In the case of...

Ceramic brake parts lube in an AR10/15

RE: http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-24124-Ceramic-Extreme-Lubricant/dp/B0018PSASA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329670457&sr=8-1 I've had amazing results from this product lubricating slide and guide pins under extreme braking conditions. It basically doesn't liquify or move around. It doesn't hurt...
