How can I find out the production date of my new(to me) 870 wingmaster?

Shotguns seem to be the least popular of the firearms in the forums. When so many people are concerned with the SHTF and HD scenarios, why aren't there more posts for shotties? People seem to think semi auto rifles are better for HD. I personally like shotguns better.
