Why can we STILL not get any ammo????

This is really ridiculous...its been several months now since I've seen anything on the shelves that is used in semi auto handguns or rifles. I don't think the DHS is buying 22LR, so what gives??? I can understand .223/5.56, 7.62, even 9mm i can understand, but all I've seen on the shelves...

Is the 10/22 really worth it?

I really like the 10/22 takedown for its practicality and reliability, etc. Putting that model aside and comparing apples - blued steel, wood furniture, base models you can pick up in WalMart or anywhere else...is the 10/22 really worth 2x the price of its competitors - the Marlin 795 and...

CCW is an obligation to carry

with all of the anti- sentiment rising up around us, I feel that every gun owner should join he NRA (not perfect, but he most effective lobbying org we have) and wherever possible, obtain a CCW permit. Once said permit is obtained, carry whenever legal and possible. Use it or lose it. While...

Need advice on starter .22 semi auto

Don't own a .22 pistol. My wife wants to learn how to shoot, so I'm jumping on the chance to get her into shooting. A few years ago she tried my Ruger P95 and it was too much for her. A smaller .380 would be worse, so I'm looking to get a .22 pistol. Was trying to decide between a 22/45 and...

    Semi actions

I believe the semi actions on most pistols, pistol cal carbines (hipoint 995) and rimfire rifles are of the simpler recoil or blowback variety, while centerfire rifles use the more complex gas and piston systems. Why can't a centerfire cal rifle run on a simple recoil or blowback system...

    Old question, maybe new twist...

I know this has been asked and discussed a lot, but sometimes the answer is "wait and save your money", or "buy both", and not everyone has the $ to do that. As much as a $350 SKS appeals to me, if I only own one, I'd feel much better with a USA made and chambered mil caliber rifle, both for...

Why no respect for pistol cal carbines as SD weapons?

I'm curious why Americans don't consider 9mm or .45 carbines as "serious" military or SD weapons (or SHTF, if your tastes run in that direction). The 9mm and .45 have a long history as issued military long arms - from the Sten, Steryr, Thompson, to Uzi and MP5, and dozens in between to almost...

    Price of SKS thse days?

I've looked at "sport" AR's and Mini's and I think I've settled on an SKS as entry point into rifles, with some all-around capabilities that I desire. Local pawn shop (central FL) has em for $350. I know guns, especially rifle or mil calibers are flying off the shelves, but is this a fair price...

    Jiminez?

Jiminez Arms is the newest incarnation of Jennings / Bryce. Anyone have any hands-on with the new marquee? I've seen them at gun shows for < $200, NIB. Worth even that, maybe as a throw in the truck gun?

Who in Central FL sells SKS's?

Looking to pick up a cheap but decent rile in military caliber, thinking SKS may be the best route, but I don't want to scour gun shows every weekend. Anybody know of a dealer in the Orl/Tampa/Daytona area deal in SKS's?

    Caliber dictates bullet shape?

This may be the best place to ask this question. Why is it that certain calibers have very distinct bullet shapes, and no matter the loading or the manufacturer, the bullet shapes do not vary that much? For example, .223 is always pointy, .17 HMR even pointy-er. 30-30 is always rounded or...

    Mini-14 or Saiga .223?

Looking to get my first "real" rifle, for general short range (<100yds) shooting and of course for TEOTWAWKI ;) . I've had my heart set on a Mini-14 for a while, I just like the looks and the reputation, the fact that it shots .223 and 5.56, and it's more "traditional" construction. But I see...

Mini 14 / Ranch Rifle chambering?

Checked out a standard wood/blue Mini 14 (Ranch Rifle) at Gander today. I have read here and on the Ruger website that the gun runs .223 and 5.56, but the stamp on the rear of the receiver just said ".223". Is the ability to run 5.56 an unadvertised feature, or did Ruger change the spec?

    "Judge" legal question

How does "The Judge" get around the laws against "short-barrelled" shotguns? I know it also takes .45 Colt, but all the marketing is towards its chamering a .410 shotgun round, so wouldn't it be classified as a shotgun?

What is "cheap Wal Mart ammo"?

I see lots of folks talk about a gun's performance with "cheap WalMart ammo", but I honestly don't know what's meant by that. When I go to WM, I see Remington green box UMC, Win white box, CCI, Federal, etc. The same brands I find at Gander for a lot more $. I don't see any walmart branded...

Did anyone catch the "plastic gun" mention by Slick Johnny last night?

Edwards actually criticized Cheney for voting against banning "plastic guns" during his time as a congressman. Do these fools actually think they can resurrect this dopey issue and get some traction from it?? I guess if they are trying to swing the college age crowd, who weren''t around for...

    Ballistics ignorance from NY's Finest

Just watched "COPS", where they rode along with NYPD Street Crime Unit. Cops pick up a guy on a bike with a _&_ .357 in his pocket. Cop says "it's fully loaded with hollow point bullets, which are made to go through our regular vests". whaaa??? Where do these guys get their information???
