ArmySon . . . Merry Christmas, you are in my prayers

As a retired Naval officer, who spent many years away from home and family, I always have our service personnel in my heart -- especially during the holiday season. This year, our own ArmySon is deployed. We miss him, pray for his safe and fast return to Pennsylvania, and want him to know that...

    Baer Monolith

Considering a Baer Monolith as a near-term "major" purchase. Your insight, opinions, and experiences would be appreciated.

    Clinton Cowardly, once again . . .

The following Washington Post story indicates Bill Clinton wants to resign from the US Supreme Court bar -- before he is discharged for amoral and illegal conduct in the Paula Jones matter: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A4886-2001Nov9.html. Once again Clinton is running way...

    TFL Day of Mourning

Rich, May I respectfully recommend TFL suspend operations for a twenty-four hour period, to coincide with the Day of National Mourning the President will surely declare during his remarks later this evening, to honor the Americans lost on this most tragic Day. Incidentally, today was an...

    Glock 36: +P Certified?

I am reluctant to use "+P" rounds and, since all my handguns are full-size, I believe adequate velocity is achieved without hot loading. However, the Glock 36 has a ~3.8 inch barrel -- much of which is employed to accommodate the chambered round -- which suggests an effective barrel length of...

    .32 Magnum -- Opinions Please

I have been vaguely considering a Ruger SP-101 in .32 magnum as an occasional "pocket" carry piece. Your advice regarding the efficacy of the .32 mag round would be appreciated (I have more than sufficient confidence in the SP-101 as a revolver). More specifically, presuming a similar...

    Springfield TRP 1911A1

A few months ago, I bought an Armory Kote Springfield Loaded TRP (http://www.springfield-armory.com/prod-pstl-1911-trp.shtml). Although I have been extremely pleased with its reliability, accuracy, and performance as well as with its quality, fit and finish in a few brief (<200 round) sessions...

TFL LEOs -- Please educate me

Another TFL thread has engendered this discussion re a concern I've had for a long time. I solicit your opinions -- particularly TFL LEOs. To begin, I am solidly pro law enforcement, raised in an FBI family and a two decade Naval officer. However, I have a feeling -- not a fact, but a...

Your advice re an additional .45 ACP autoloader would be appreciated

I will likely spend my $600 tax rebate -- and some additional cash -- on another .45 ACP semiautomatic, to complement my Sig P-220, my H&K USP Tactical, and my four 1911A1s (a pre-WWII Colt government issue, a stainless Kimber Custom/Classic, a stainless Springfield "loaded", and an ArmoryKote...

    New icons

I know icons are supposed to be intuitive, however, our revised software has some new "envelope types" -- open with papers extended from the rear, gray colored and emitting rays, and so forth -- in addition to the standard red (new posts) and yellow (no new posts) left column envelopes. What...

    New TFL Software

Rich (and all others who contributed) -- Truly excellent, moving us from perfectly adequate to elegant. Sincerely, thank you and best regards -- Roy

A key and difficult defensive firearms issue

Recently there have been a number of topics initiated concerning CCW (etc.) and the legality of various actions. I solicit TFL experts' comments re the following scenario: A felon enters your home at night. You respond by calling 911 and attempting to confront him with your handgun. He...

"Go to the first new post" Blue Down-Arrows

Rich and company, This may just be my PC setup, however, I have discovered a problem -- which did not exist in the past -- with the blue, "Go to the first new post" down-arrows on the left side of the "thread screen". Until recently, this worked just as intended. However, I noted today -- and...

Fiocchi .45 ACP 230 Grain FMJ

FYI, just fired 350 rounds of Fiocchi 230 grain .45 ACP ball ammunition. One round had improper cartridge case headspace and (obviously) would not load. Not a serious problem -- and I will still use Fiocchi when it is inexpensively available -- but a clear manufacturing defect.

Decided to take the tax refund plunge . . .

And bought a NIB Springfield TRP (Please see: http://www.springfield-armory.com/prod-pstl-1911-trp.shtml). This will likely become my everyday carry 1911A1. I have been considerably impressed with my "loaded" Springfield -- compares favorably to my Kimber and pre-WWII Colt GI issue -- so I...

    A Good Day

I just wanted to share my enjoyment of yesterday's target session with our TFL brethren. I took three handguns to my local range for three-hour NCAA basketball break on Sunday. Nothing spectacular or even newsworthy, but a very nice time and a personal demonstration that traditionally designed...

    Moonclips for the Ruger GP-100

I prefer full moonclips, to speedloaders, to rapidly replenish my S&W 627s. If possible, I would like to apply this same approach for my Ruger GP-100s. Is there a moonclip for the GP-100 that will not harm the revolver?

    .357 magnum versus .41 magnum

I have intentionally bought only .357 magnum/.38 Special revolvers: two Ruger KGP-141s and two S&W "Special Edition" 627 N frames. I really enjoy the quality, precision, accuracy, and durability of these wheelguns, and I find the KGP-141s to be quite concealable, particularly when some type of...

    The "Need for Speed" ???

We all work to improve accuracy and SPEED. The speeds with which we practice tap and double tap, with which we reload magazines and use speedloaders, with which we recover from recoil and reacquire the target, and so forth. Further, we are concerned with transitioning speeds such as DA versus...

Good Deal on Quality, Target/Plinking .45 ACP ammo

It's not unusual for me to shoot 500 to 1000 rounds of 230 grain, FMJ, .45 ACP per month. Since I don't yet reload (inadequate space in my shop and garage), I'm always searching for inexpensive, high-quality target loads. I won't use American, Wolf, and so forth, because I simply don't want to...
